Site visits to demonstrate good practice in environmental and resource management.

o  A 9% reduction in energy use, leading to an approximate £9,000 annual cost saving.

o  Anticipated cost saving of £7,800/annum in waste costs through diversion of waste from landfill.

o  Establishment of monitoring and measurement data.

o  North Down Group was awarded the Most Improved Company award

for BITES 2010/11 by Mabbett.

“Prior to participating on the BITES Programme, we were concerned about the escalating costs of our water, waste, energy and fuel bills. The BITES Programme enabled the company to take a step back and re-assess our operational costs in these areas. As a result, we implemented resource saving measures”.

o  A current saving of approximately £3,600 per year on electricity costs.

o  Gas consumption has been reduced and anticipated savings of over £1,200 in the coming year.

o  Reduction in general waste collections through improved awareness and recycling.

o  A reduction in water usage of approximately 30%.

•  22 businesses supported •  1159MWh of electricity and gas saved (carbon savings 620

tonnes). •  148 tonnes of materials recycled (carbon savings 66 tonnes

based on savings from waste diverted from landfill). •  30 tonnes of avoided materials (eliminated) (carbon savings

13 tonnes based on savings from waste diverted from landfill). •  1 tonne of paper reduced. •  437m3 (437 tonnes) of water reduced. •  280 tonnes of landfill waste diverted (carbon savings 125

tonnes).
