Literature review
NREGS is a scheme under the act NREGA2005 for providing 100 days guaranteed wage employment for all employment seekers above 18 years of age and willing to do work.
In the year 2009 the central government allocated RS.
30,100 crore for NREGA. In 2009-10 employment of 24.56 lakhs person day covering 2.41293 lakhs house hold already generated in Kerala.
Workforce participation of marginalized groups has been high with 57% (SC/ST) in 2007-08 and 55% up to mid-August 2008.
Women participation increased to 49% to 85%
As per statistics with the Ministry, women constituted 85.05 per cent of the total 3,16,287 households which were provided jobs under the Rural Employment Guarantee Act since 2008.
The population of Palluruthy block panchayath (Kumbalangi and Chellanam block panchayath) mainly depends on the fishing which is a seasonal employment
