Pain Points and Service Solutions

• No more tapes or significant reduction in tape reliance• Extended life of existing tape drives• Protect stranded data

• Protect a greater amount of data in a smaller amount of space with less resources than traditional tape solutions

• Every backup is a FULL backup• Fully automated solution• Instant offsite data protection• No software license fees per server• Built-in ability for hot online backups of enterprise

applications• No annual software/hardware maintenance fees• Backup more frequently due to shorter backup windows

• Software is installed on one server/PC.

• Data is encrypted and compressed prior to offsite transfer.

• A local vault can be established onsite for rapid recovery.

• Data is transferred offsite to a secure data center.

• All client data is held on disk for rapid recovery and the primary data center is mirrored offsite.

• Restore requests are completed and data is transferred back

Encryption

• Data Security– Encryption occurs on the client prior to transmission– Data unencrypted only after transmitted back to the client PC– Stored encrypted at the data center

• Encryption Levels– Blowfish64– AES256– User configurable per client

• Key Management– Auto-generated – managed by <Company Name>– Customer-generated – managed by customer

• Customer Private Key– If customer loses key, they lose access to all data, and will need to re-

seed.

Data reduction

• 3-Stage Data Reduction Process:1. Compression2. Block-level de-duplication3. Delta Block Technology

• Value – Significantly reduces the amount of data transmitted, speeding up the backup process

• Competition – 99% of competitors do not deploy all of these processes. Without these processes, the competition could transmit up to 7x the amount of data, greatly increasing the time necessary to complete the backup and the bandwidth usage

Local Vault

• Facilitates file storage locally at LAN speed• Connection to Online Data Vault not necessary for restore• Variable– can store up to 4:1 (onsite:offsite) ratio,

providing more flexibility to customers– Allows customer to define backup sets that are only stored locally– Only provider that does not require 1:1

• Recommendation– Put Local Vault storage on same machine that is running the

RDB-Client• USB attached storage is fine

Data Transfer

Bandwidth• Minimal bandwidth requirements

• DSL, Cable Modem, T-1• T-1 can transfer ~15GB (compressed) per 24 hours

• Bandwidth is usually relative to data storage• 384 Kbps DSL line user , <5 GB of critical compressed data

• User-configured bandwidth throttling

Data Retention

• Generation Overview• Generations

– Each backup run is a generation– Example – 30 Generation, backup run 1x per

day = 30 days

• Unlimited Generations– Allows customer ability to retain all previous

versions of data in that set

Award-winning Infrastructure Design

• RDB operates business-critical data centers– Downtime is not an option

• Best practices using backup components to maximize fail over and redundancy– Best-of-breed routers, switches, firewalls, servers, facilities

infrastructure, power grids and telecommunications

• 99.99% availability and highest levels of security– Disaster mirroring ensures a duplicate copy at a mirrored location

Advanced RTO Ability

Recovery Time Objective (RTO):– A measurement of how quickly data needs to be restored in the event of an outage or some

type of disaster. In other words, the amount of time an organization can be without data (e.g., hours, days, weeks, etc)

Remote Data Backup provides the customer multiple capabilities for restoring files:Client – from the same client used to create and manage backup sets, the user can select

any number of folders or files to restore

Web – using the Client Web Operator, the user can sign in from any Web-accessible computer and restore files to that computer

Local Vault – with a Local Vault installation, the customer can use the client to restore over their LAN at LAN speeds

– Customer can hold data onsite as well as offsite for fast LAN-speed data restoration (up to 1000 Mbps restore speed)

– Typical competitor will be limited to WAN-speed data restoration (1.5 Mbps Average)– Solves customers WAN concerns with online data backup

Offline (USB) – a customer can request a USB restore to be sent overnight to their location for large restores
