About Blippr

• A Tag Team Interactive company.• Launched in alpha November 2007 and currently

in public beta• A social review site• Reviews are short and simple.

▫ Their view is that this will let you share recommendations with friends faster.

• Since the company is in the earlier stages of beta, hardly any advertising is seen on this site.

First Impressions

• Blippr seems like it has the potential to be a very popular social networking community based around user contributed content.

• The biggest problem with the site is that it doesn't really have a lot of users yet. Like all web 2.0 companies the user experience will get better as the site gains popularity.

• They just don’t have the user base yet required for it to be the next big thing.

Major Web 2.0 Features

• User Interface is easy to use and visually appealing.• Use of “tags” for “blips” created by users.• All blips are created by users with incentives such as

gaining “badges”.• Use of other applications such as Youtube.• RSS feeds for new blips.• Has its own social network through “followers” and

list sharing.▫ Can be linked to other social networking applications

such as Facebook.

As you Blipp more you get badges!!!

Comparisons

• Blippr resembles a number of sites that have the same features.▫ Review based▫ User-generated content

• Metacritic• Rotten Tomatoes• Digg

Comparisons - Metacritic• Resembles Metacritic the

most.• Both review a wide range of

media.• Blippr is completely user-

oriented in that all reviews are generated by users.

• Metacritic is more like a newspaper in which editors decide which articles to publish.

• There are user comments, but the main focus are the chosen critic’s articles.

Comparisons – Rotten Tomatoes• Rotten Tomatoes also has a

similar purpose.▫ Mostly movie reviews,

however, everything is user-generated.

• User reviews are also mostly short and to the point.

• Rotten Tomatoes is the path that Blippr will follow if more users use the site.

Comparisons - Digg• Digg also uses this system of

reviewing.• It allows users to rate news

stories using “diggs” and the highest rated news stories will be put onto the front page.

• In Blippr, items being reviewed with the most “blips” are put at the front of the page.

Comparisons - Conclusion• The thing that will separate Blippr from other user

generated review sites is that Blippr allows for video reviews.

• If you do not want to type out a review, Blippr allows for you to record a short 12 second video.

• Blippr stresses short reviews as they cap their text reviews at 160 words.

• This can either hurt them or help them. Short reviews can prevent spoilers and plot divulging, but can also not provide enough information.

Our Suggestions

• Reviews on T.V. shows.• Have a system of control for spam reviews such as

visible moderators.• Broader range of titles.

▫ More obscure titles are harder to find on the site.

• More incentives to “blip” besides badges.
