NEWS 1 Wevelgem-based West Flemish Traficon is a global market leader in intelligent traffic detection systems. Since 1992 it has been focusing on developing technology for safer and smoother traffic. The company develops, produces and sells intelligent equipment for incident detection in tunnels and motorways as well as for vehicle detection at intersections. Its current market comprises more than 60 countries. The purpose of the in-house developed products is to analyze traffic flows on the basis of real-time video images. In early 2010, Traficon launched its latest showpiece on crossroad detection for pedestrians, the SafeWalk. For the production of this innovation, it closely cooperates with PsiControl Mechatronics. ‘Traficon’s SafeWalk is an intelligent video sensor that detects pedestrians waiting at pedestrian crossings. Constant screening of the sidewalks for pedestrians allows for the more dynamic control of the traffic lights. Unnecessary waiting times, both for pedestrians and drivers, can thus be reduced to a minimum. On top of this, the intelligent detection system contributes to a considerable improvement of the pedestrian’s safety’ stated Geert Creus, Logistics Manager of Traficon. The new video detection system for pedestrians combines stereovision technology with intelligent image processing technology. Two CMOS cameras used in a parallel set-up allow the SafeWalk to convert 2D images into 3D information. Embedded Traficon algorithms subsequently process the information into a more accurate analysis of the presence of pedestrians and their attitudes. Therefore, SafeWalk realizes a more efficient traffic flow and helps to avoid delays. In addition, it contributes towards higher pedestrian safety. Traficon commissioned the entire production of the SafeWalk sensor to PsiControl Mechatronics. We take care of mounting the print boards, carry out a complete functional test of the modules, read in the software and perform final assembly. Our extensive know-how in the field of test systems led Traficon to also entrust the full design of a state-of-the-art test system to PsiControl Mechatronics. Consequently, not only are the print boards being tested, we also carry out a complete functional test of the SafeWalk in order to guarantee the highest quality level. Traficon’s SafeWalk sensors are already in use in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the US. For further information, please visit www.traficon.com. ISSUE III - Q4 2010 Dear reader, Enclosed you can find the third edition of our newsletter with information to keep you up-to-date with the latest developments at PsiControl Mechatronics. Helped by a gradually improving economy, PsiControl Mechatronics has again had the wind in the sails since the second quarter of this year. We are delighted to report an increase in our activities and new client projects in various sectors, such as compressors, railway materials, textile machinery and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning). We also recently invested in a new machine for selective soldering (the Ecoselect 2 of Erea GmbH).This new state-of-the-art soldering machine allows for the efficient placement of insertion components within a highly limited tolerance. The machine combines speed with a very reliable quality level and we therefore take great pride in being able to include this technological gem in our machine fleet. This issue of our newsletter also contains information about a project we are carrying out for Traficon. Just like PsiControl Mechatronics, Traficon has its roots in West Flanders. The company is currently the world market leader in intelligent traffic detection systems. Last but not least, you will find some information about our internal testing facilities in this bulletin. Are you looking for a ‘zero service’ quality controller?

New automation concepts require controllers to remain active under all circumstances. Controllers in hospitals, on oil rigs or at any far corner of the world can simply never fail. Our engineers are used to de-signing industrial electronics that remain functional under heavy circumstances, 24/7 and for many deca-des in a row. Based on many years of experience we are able to provide solutions for several industries. And thanks to a global network of clients, we also have a world of experience with various standards (CE, UL-CSA, etc.) We can therefore easily state that creating designs to accomplish ‘zero service’ quality levels is in our genes. We consider all specific requi-rements of the product from the draft of the design. Our internal testing facilities (EMC pre-compliance, temperature, humidity and vibrations) considerably reduce development througput time and also enable us to offer excellent ser-vice during your product’s entire life cycle.

Our test facilities include the following components:

• EMC pre-compliance• Temperature and humidity testing - IEC 60068-2-1: Cold test - IEC 60068-2-2: Dry heat test - IEC 60068-2-14: Test Nb: gradual change of temperature test - IEC 60068-2-30: Damp heat, cyclic (12 + 12h cycle) - IEC 60068-2-78: Damp heat, steady state• Vibration tests - IEC 60068-2-6: Sine vibration - IEC 60068-2-27: Shock - IEC 60068-2-64: Random vibration• Salt Mist tests - IEC 60068-2-11: Salt spray

Visit PsiControl Mechatronics at the Midest 2010(hall 6, stand T185-13, Romanian pavilion)

Early November is the time for the 40th edition of the MIDEST, the most important industrial fair for supplier companies. PsiControl Mechatronics is sure to participate in this annual major event for industrial suppliers. Together with our Romanian subsidiary PsiControl Mechatronics Srl we will take the opportunity to highlight our subcontracting expertise in Elec-tronic Manufacturing Services (EMS), and to draw specific attention to our expertise in production and logistics provision of cables, electronic circuits and complete mechatronics modules. We will also introduce the combi-nation of our controller with several motorizations (step-by-step engines, actuators, etc). And one of the latest developments we intend to show in this respect is the sensorless homing motor control software. MIDEST 2010 will take place from Tuesday 2 November to Friday 5 November in Hall 6 of the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre. For further information please visit www.midest.com.
