Q&A with Eric Pierni

When was the last time you used Kijiji? I used it three weeks ago. I posted an ad to rent out my parking spot.

Page 23: Meet the Social Leaders

Q&A with Eric PierniCan you give a couple of examples of how businesses are using Kijiji? Kijiji.ca is a great resource for both small and large businesses. For example, automotive dealers use the site to list used cars for sale. Large companies – including consumer packaged goods brands -- buy online advertising on Kijiji to reach consumers.  We’ve also seen furniture stores use the site to list discounted/discontinued furniture; the listings help to drive people into their retail locations.

Eric’s Tips for Using Kijiji

1. Always include a picture2. Try to include a telephone number; some people

prefer the ability to immediately contact the buyers

3. Be clear in the listing about what you are offering. 4. Make sure to place the ad in one category and the

right category at that!

“The most valuable is ‘probably Twitter’ where they have 1,400 followers. The #1 thing social media has done for us? ‘Brand awareness. Ignore at your peril.’ ”Jack Smith, Owner, Tidal Bore Rafting Park

“One year ago after I noticed the amount of time our young summer employees spend social networking. I was still focused on print and traditional media advertising when it was obvious the younger generation had switched mediums on me.”Jack Smith, Owner, Tidal Bore Rafting Park

“We recently dove head-first into Facebook and dipped our toes into Twitter.  We have used Kijiji for a few years, and are working on content for a blog. It’s a free, relatively low-effort alternate channel(s) to get the message out (who we are, what we do).”Tim, Rising Tide Expeditions, Cape Breton

“Be interactive on blog/Facebook - ask questions, generate input.  This is a two-way conversation, not static and one-way like most websites.  It is a chance to be personal, to sell to individuals as well as tailoring some content to groups.”Tim, Rising Tide Expeditions, Cape Breton
