Layar 8.5 introduces the concept of event handlers to the Layar API, which allows for actions or POI updates to be triggered at certain events. The enables developers to add more complex functionality to their experiences, e.g. sequencing of videos, but also dynamic content without server interaction.The following event types have been introduced for the hotspots 'object' element:onLoad — Triggered when the object/renderable has been loaded successfullyonClick — Triggered when the object/renderable has been clicked (similar behaviour as the POI action)onPlaybackStart — Triggered when the video or audio object playback startedonPlaybackFinish — Triggered when the video or audio object playback finishedAll these events can trigger new actions, content updates (including adding new objects to the scene and removing already displayed objects) or even a custom handler (a kind of a macros, that can be re-used for multiple objects and on different events).All this allows AR scenes to be even more interactive and interact with user in various ways.

Advanced callbacks

We’ve added more callbacks that give you more control over the look-and-feel of your experience. For Geo Layers, you can now opt to remove the compass and the messages shown at the top which usually indicate the number of results found nearby.


Beacons

You no longer need to rely solely on the built-in GPS of the user’s device to get location data. Now you can hook into any location provider that you choose. For example, you can use iBeacons to create a more accurate location-based AR experience when indoors.
