Benefits from EU research and innovation

Reduce fragmentation, enable cross-border pooling of resources to achieve critical mass and diffusion of knowledge

Promote competition in research and innovation, thereby raising levels of excellence

Ideas Programme – Frontier Research

The European Research Council – first pan-European funding organization for basic research

Investigator driven research /bottom-up approach. No thematic priorities

Grants for young and senior individual researchers, of any nationality, and their teams, up to five-years. No consortia, no networks. Grant packages: Starting grant: up to 2.0 mio (132 Mio INR)/Advanced grant: up to 3.5 mio (231 mio INR)

Promotes high-quality research through competition for funds at European level, also open to researchers from outside Europe

Scientific excellence is the only criterion for success

Calendar for forthcoming ERC calls for proposals*

Starting Independent Researcher Grants Call for Proposals to be published on 19 July 2011 - ERC Starting Grants:

Competition targeted at early-career research leaders, of any age, with 2-12 years of experience after their PhD. Applicants can be of any nationality as long as they are working, or moving to work, mainly, in Europe. Team members can also be located and work in Countries outside Europe.

Open to proposals in any field of research (from Social Sciences and Humanities to Life Sciences and Physical Sciences).

Call budget : 729.97 Mio Euro (50 bn INR). Individual grant : up to 2 Mio euros (132 Mio INR) Indicative deadlines : October 2011 (for Physical Sciences/Engineering) and November 2011 (for Life Sciences/Social Sciences and Humanities)
