Choosing Music We decided to use FREEPLAY MUSIC when selecting our music. Advantages -> Wide variety of music to suit any film atmosphere. The website was easy to use and the search tab made it quicker to find music. Disadvantages -> Too much choice was time consuming because we had to listen to a number of songs that were very similar to each other. Search tab Account Wide Variety New Releases 8. Availability of Information We were able to find a wide variety of information that was relevant to our choice of genre from a range of different sources. The information was quick and easy to find when we had used a specific search. We used the background information that we had searched for all of our blog posts. A problem that we experienced was that irrelevant information from our search appeared. The most reliable websites tended to appear before the other search results. 9. Cross-Checking Information Digital hosting sites are largely unregulated; so we learned it was important to cross-check information across more than one site to make sure it was accurate. 10. Easy Access to Opening Sequences This was a major advantage to researching using digital technology; although we did watch film openings on DVD, by far the easiest and most accessible research was using sites such as YouTube as this helped us stumble across films we would never have searched for ourselves but were still useful. 11. Refining Research Using Search Engines Many search engines have quite sophisticated filters for finding results such as looking for similar colours, styles and in the example here looking for the same faces. 12. Advantages of Internet Research Advantages The information is easy to access. The search engines are quick, free and easy to use. You can refine your search to gain accurate research. The information varies in depth and gives more understanding of the topic. Wide variety of information available to discover. 13. Disadvantages Vague and irrelevant information. You are unaware of the reliability of the information. You couldnt always find the specific information you wanted. The information we have used thats available to all on the internet could be similar to other AS students. Advantages of Internet Research 14. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY FOR PLANNING 15. Blogger We used Blogger as a platform to post all of our coursework, research and evaluations. It is easy to post photos, links and text in order to explain the point you are making. 16. The main advantage of Blogger is its accessibility and the way it is easy to share work. For example if one member of the group posted research on titles and credits using the movie Avatar as an example, the next group member would see this. We kept track of each others work through the posts page. Blogger 17. Use of Camera for Location Shots We were able to use digital cameras to take photos as part of our preparations and then upload them to the blog where we could look back on them. 18. Creation of Animatic We used Final Cut to turn our storyboard into an animatic after taking digital photos of each drawing. This enabled us to get a much better idea of the timing of our piece. 19. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY FOR CONSTRUCTION 20. Cameras We used two different cameras for our coursework. We used the Nikon camera for taking any still photos used within our coursework, and a Canon to film our final piece. The Nikon was easy to use as we had control over the focus, this is important when taking photos. The Canon was also easy to film with as it has a self focus feature meaning that we could concentrate more on what we were filming. 21. The Software Used Final Cut Express. Live Type. 22. Final Cut Express & LiveType Final Cut Express enabled us to efficiently and easily edit together our piece, it allowed us to produce an effective opening sequence of a high standard. LiveType enabled us to insert sophisticated looking credits to fit our chosen genre. They are both good examples of how digital editing packages allow even inexperienced producers to get good results. 23. Final Cut-Clip Library We used Final Cut for our editing. Final Cut allows you to save your filmed clips in an easy to access section above your work. In this section we were also able to import our ident so when its needed we can just add it into our project. 24. Final Cut Express We used Final Cut Express in order to edit our final coursework pieces. We also used it to create our ident. It is simple and quick to upload videos from the camera onto Final Cut Express. Once the videos are uploaded there are limitless ways to edit the video to meet your plans. 25. Editing-Ordering When it came to editing we used the cutting tool frequently. This allows you to cut a clip down and save both parts to use at a later date. We could if we wanted to rearrange the our clips. This layout also allows us to see what video clip we have and if it has audio. Final Cut Express allows you to see the opening still to know which shot youre working with. 26. Layout Whilst Editing Using Final Cut Express we were able to have a layout like this. With this layout we can see our clip library, timeline, our actual project view window and our draft clip window. Timeline. Project viewer window. Canvas.Clip Library. 27. Sound in Final Cut Express When importing sound for our piece we had to save the sound file into our clip library first You then play the clip in the draft window (canvas) to select the section you want. In your final project. After that you drag the sound clip you want from the draft window dragging it down onto the Timeline where you want it to play. 28. Use of Effects and Transitions We used the pre-packaged effects on Final Cut to add to our piece. For example, the left image illustrates the fade in to signal the beginning of the sequence. The right image shows the slow appearance of our title as it fades in on screen. Final Cut has many of these effects and transitions, which is a very useful feature. 29. Live Type Live Type has a range of fonts, colours and animations ready for the disposal of the creator. It helped us to create a professional looking end product . 30. Live Type When creating the title and credits we used LiveType which is a text making software that goes with Final Cut. We were able to decide the size and duration of the credit. We could select a font, colour and adjust the style and also add animations for the entrance and exit of the credit. This helped us to achieve more professional results. 31. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY FOR EVALUATION 32. Blogger The website Blogger was used to record our evaluations as well as our research. It was a good way of being able to track our progress and see how we had progressed and improved in a logical way. It is available to use from anywhere which helped us as it meant we could make adjustments to our blog posts in school and at home. This meant our thought progress could be tracked constantly throughout the progress of our opening sequence. 33. Blogger Through the comments section on blogger we were able to get comments from other people about our first draft cut of our opening sequence This enabled us to see if a real audience understood our opening sequence and get constructive feedback which we took on board and applied to our piece to improve it. This collaborative element of digital technology was probably the most useful aspect. 34. Overview of all blogs. Easily able to see how we have progressed. Able to view specific posts if needed via labels. Available on different platforms Blogger 35. PowerPoint PowerPoint was used to create professional looking presentations It meant our points were clear and concise and not overcrowded with unimportant information It also meant that we were forced to be concise and precise We were also forced to consider the relation between text and image 36. Use of Photoshop to Create Collage Photoshop was used to create a montage of key shots from our piece so that we could use these to illustrate how we had met genre conventions. Photoshop also allowed us to number the shots and arrange them in a logical order. 37. Use of Mind Maps We were able to create mind maps using Word or Paint or Photoshop, exp
