A friend asked me how does one build a mobile app. Since that is not what I do I am hoping people smarter than myself can help me put together an answer.

App Requirements
• Should run on iOS and Android devices.
• Interactive
– Users will send queries via SMS or by selecting acategory from within the app.
– SMS queries will have to be in a particular format.
– Backend system should recognize queries & matchthem to answers in a database.
– A URL pointing to the answer will be sent by SMSor email.

App Requirements
• Should allow broadcast of the query to a ClosedUser Group via SMS or email from within the app.
• Separate email & SMS clients not needed. Appshould open user’s preferred client.
• App should have a favourite/expert list for eachcategory of questions.
• Replies within CUG should be one-to-one, not ‘ToAll’.
• Multiple answers submitted by CUG should beviewable as a stack of URLs.

App Requirements
• Sync Q&A between different devices ownedby a user.
• Rating system for peer answers.
• In-app ads.

• What skills should a team possess to build suchan app?
• How many types of people will be needed? E.g.DBA, OS, web server, programmer, data entry.
