Gender My product features mainly male characters which fits in with the genre because it has a predominantly male audience and as I found out in my research other magazines stated their average reader as male.

As well as in my own research most people who answered my survey were male

My magazine depicts males as being aggressive and/or extremely passionate towards the genre which is also what other magazines have found out about their audience making the characters in my magazine extremely relatable to my audience

Age My magazine has no reference to any specific age but all characters in my magazine are meant to be between 18-25 which is within the age range of my audience this is an effort to make all characters as relatable as possible so that my audience will connect with the magazine and will be more likely to buy another magazine

My magazine depicts my characters as relaxed and informal because people in and around the genre while still being passionate are very relaxed, this leads on to the fact like genre they are still shown as devoted to their genre and fans something popular with people who read music magazines

Here are some examples of devotion and informality from my double page spread interview with my characters

Class In my magazine all characters are meant to come from working or middle class families but mainly working class as it makes it more relatable to my audience as if all characters are middle class the working class reader may resent this and not be able to connect with the magazine where as it is not to hard for middle class readers to imagine what a working class life is like and will still have a connection to the characters, at least more of a connection than if it were the reverse

My magazine depicts my characters as having struggled from their background to where they are now this gives my readers something to aspire to as well as being able to relate to where they started and how they could have struggled

Shows my characters have struggled

This makes my characters relatable as it shows they have aspirations

Ethnicity

I did not really depict any ethnicity in anyway but I did choose Caucasian characters because in most magazines and throughout most of my genre there are not a lot of ethnic minorities and even the picture to show Kerrang!’s typical reader is Caucasian

I also chose Caucasian characters because most of the U.K population is Caucasian and this makes my magazine more relatable to a larger part of my potential audience
