How does your media product represent particular social groups?

As my target audience is 16-20 year olds I had to make sure my magazine was appealing to the right audience. I was also trying to appeal to both genders, every ethnicity, and was mainly aiming at the middle class. The next slides show how I used my magazine to appeal to the right audience.

I used a young model on the front page so it would appeal to the correct age range. Also, using direct mode of address draws people into the magazine because they feel like they have a personal relationship with the model.I stereotypically used a attractive model to attract men.

I used a red, black and white colour scheme throughout the magazine as this attract both males and females.

The magazine look sophisticated which will attract middle class readers to buy it.

I just used key words to attract my target audience because then they wouldn’t have read loads, but they would still know what was in the magazine, which is typically what teenagers like

I used a sophisticated style (fonts, layout) to appeal to the class I am aiming at.

Again, I young model so my target audience can relate, and direct mode of address so they feel like they connect with the magazine.

I made my magazine easy to navigate, and gave a bit of information about each article so they only read the bits they want to, because my focus group told me they wouldn’t want to have to read more than they were interested in.

I also had the model, pose in a playful/cheeky way as the target audience is young.

I used simple language as teenagers (and my focus group) want to read magazine’s for leisure so I wanted to make it easy to read.

I used two teenagers on my double page spread as stereotypically teenagers are seen as trouble so I wanted to show that they had achieved a lot because then more teenagers are going to want to buy the magazine

I made the picture take up half of the article because my target audience said that it is the pictures that draw them in to read the article.

I used a puff to make the magazine look less text heavy.
