How Google classifies hotels on Google Address
By Emilie Alba February, 24th 2012
English transla,on of extracts from the French ar,cle "Comment Google classe les hotels sur Google adresse"
Some Facts
• Hotels are some9mes ranked illogically. • Hotels some9mes disappear from the hotel list suggested by Google.
Explana:on
• Google works on the principle that If I request “Hotel Nantes” (Nantes being a French town), to be relevant, all the hotels in Nantes town center have to be listed.
Google Theory
• Google displays, among the correctly enquired hotels from its database, hotels in the town center.
• Google ranks in priority the hotels with the highest number of comments/reviews.
The issue
• Some hotels in the town center are beNer listed than other hotels with more reviews… how is it possible?
The reason
• What Google determines as town center is not necessarily what hoteliers consider as town center.
The following pictures from Google Finder show what Google considers as town center. When people type the name of a town, Google highlights the town center area. The hotels listed out of this area won’t be ranked among the firsts in Google Address.
Saint-‐malo
Nantes
Brest
Bordeaux
