A joint effort by Greek, industry, educational and training institutions, startups and HR agencies, aiming to motivate young people to improve their e-skills and employability, increase their entrepreneurial skills and learn about new technologies.

The motto of Getbusy.gr is “unleash your potential” and achieves that by giving free access to informational and educational material, by informing youth about educational events or seminars that hold value and by urging everybody to give it a shot and develop that innovative idea.

During it’s first phase (November 2012 – April 2013), getbusy was open to youth aged 17 to 28. Getbusy, addressed most of the policy themes of the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs launched by the European Commission on March 2013.

What is getbusy? an alliance for opportunities

In the core of getbusy is the online quiz. Available on the website and the facebook fanpage users have the opportunity to test the knowledge acquired on all four subjects. Score ranking position depends on the ratio of correct answers and time on the three levels of the quiz. During the first year of getbusy the quiz gave users the opportunity to claim great prizes including two scholarships for Bachelor’s degrees, two scholarships for Master’s degrees, 200 free ECDL Core + certifications, career counseling, educational seminars and more. A point worth making is the innovative study basket which facilitated the studying process.

Training & matching

Currently we are in discussions with two international HR agencies that will help us develop the 2nd round of getbusy focusing on offering actual jobs to Greek youth.

Awareness raising

Getbusy offered greater visibility to ICT education, training, jobs and careers. We presented Greek university students the span of ICT jobs (290 job descriptions, 86 different skills)*.

certification

To improve professionalism as well as the recognition of qualifications earned via getbusy we offered 200 free ECDL Core+ certifications to the top-200 scorers.

learning & teaching

Getbusy is a web-based learning platform that turns education into fun. The quiz was built around the innovative study basket which assisted candidates in both efficient and effective studying.

Grand coalition alignment how getbusy.gr addresses GC Policy Themes

* Skills framework for the information age

Presenter
Presentation Notes
As far as the Grand Coalition is concerned: Getbusy contributed into raising the awareness regarding ICT skills and professions. We have also engaged into University career days promoting getbusy and the ICT profession by presenting to students the diversity of the profession. Getbusy also contributed in certification by giving 200 ECDL Core + certifications for free. Finally, Getbusy is a web-based learning platform that turns education into fun. For example, the innovative study basket assisted candidates studying efficiently and effectively. Furthermore, we are currently in discussions with two international work and employment companies that will assist us in moving getbusy one step forward aligning the program with the training and matching policy theme. More on this in a few seconds. Regarding mobility which is a GC policy theme, as Greece has a surplus of ICT skilled workforce we propose to initiate a cross-border coalition web-based platform matching candidates from our country to jobs in countries with a deficit of ICT skilled workforce.

Presentation Notes
Our plan for the future is two-fold: on one hand our objective is to retain the program and on the other hand expand in anyway possible. 1. Add advanced ICT topics to the educational material (such as IT security, development, cloud computing). 2. Offer additional HR benefits from prestigious agencies (career advice, coaching, feedback, etc)3. Retain last year’s scholarships and if possible obtain more. Currently we are in discussions with two international HR agencies that want to assist us in moving getbusy one step forward. Given the percentage of youth unemployment in Greece, the idea around the second round of getbusy is to enable a larger part of Greek industry, educational, HR and training institutions and use getbusy for training as well as job matching. The plan is to offer shortlists for (as many as possible) 6-month internship jobs (this scheme might vary according to final arrangements). Candidates that will not be offered a job, will be liable for a full feedback analysis regarding their resume and interview standing.4. Further develop the local Greek coalition around getbusy in the context of European Commission’s Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs and continue raising awareness regarding the diversity of the ICT Profession.5. Secure more sponsors and donations which will help retain the program and in addition achieve additional benefits and gifts to as many Greek youth as possible.6. The success of getbusy and the distinction of best practice and of course the CSR Award, show that rolling out Getbusy to other countries would also be successful. As long as we have material in the local language and the local coalition can support it, the know-how and quiz engine are transferable assets that can be rolled-out with ease and minimal cost.
