The difference between a Personal Profile & a Business Page

Differences between a biz page and a personal profile

You LIKE a biz page, you have FRIENDS on a personal profile page.

Personal profiles have a limit of 5000 friends, no limit on Likes on a business page.

Business page are available to everybody on the Internet by default while Personal Profile pages are not.People need to agree to be your friend, anybody can like your business page without your permission.

You can't invite or search for LIKE's on your business page as you can for FRIENDS on your Personal Profile page.

Personal profiles are not indexed by Google or other search engines while Business Pages are and so may turn up in Google search results.

How to share and view information.

Sharing Information with others is why Facebook exists.

Initially the two main pages on your FB Page for sharing and viewing information are

The Wall

The Newsfeed

At the top of each of these page is the Status Update Box.

Here you can share text ( max 420 characters), images , video or web links.

As soon as you enter your information or uploaded the video or picture in the status update box and hit return your entry will appear in the Newsfeed of all of the people who have Liked your Business Page.

The Newsfeed page is the default landing page when a user logs into Facebook.

Clearly from a business prospective the more Likes you have on your business page the more people you can promote you business to in this manner.

All of your posts will appear on your Wall and will remain there permanently.

The Wall will contain a permenant record of all of your activity on Facebook so if you want to know about a company check out their wall.

How to share and view information.

Just as others see your updates on their News Feed you also see their updates on your News Feed page.

Your News Feed page is not a permenant record of information and will only show recent additions to it.

Only you can see your News Feed page but anyone of your Likes can view your Wall.

To make a post more interesting you can include a web address or Facebook address in the post, if you do so Facebook will pull information from that web site or Facebook page and present it along with your post.

Two Way Communication

People may not just want to read the updates or posts you make, Facebook allows your friends to comment or like your updates.

At the bottom of each update on a news feed page there is two options, they are

Like

Comment

If a user clicks the Like Button on a post he or she is indicating a positive reaction with the contents of that post.

A record of this action is stored on the Wall of the person who has just liked a post along with a link to the original post.

The number of Likes for an update or post is shown beside the Like button.

Your Like Action may also be turned into a Newsfeed item for all of your friends and so spread the initial post beyond it's initial audience.

Two Way Communication

You can also comment on a post in your news feed by clicking the comment link below the post and filling in the box.

If you comment on a post the contents are posted on your wall and are also a news feed item for all of your Likes. This news feed item will contain a link back to the original post.

Again this is very powerful feature that brings messages beyond their initial audience.

Social Plugins

You do not need to be on the Facebook site to be able to post information about web sites, web pages, producds you like and share that with your friends on Facebook.

Facebook has taken the Like button and allowed web site owners to put it on their web site, attach it to products in an on-line catalogue or put it in blog posts.

Now when somebody reads a page of your web site or views a product for sale in an on-line catalogue they will be able to express their positive reaction to this by clicking the like button, all of thier friend will receive this information about your action in their news feed with a link back to the web site or product page etc.

Facebook has a code generator that will give you the code you need to add to your web site etc to make the Like button work their.

There are many versions of this like button available.
