Heuristic Evaluation and Survey Method

of Adobe In Design CS6

Page 2: Evaluation&Survey

• Visibility of system status – in Adobe In Design system status is good, software always keep users informed about what is going on and before we click each option there is a descriptions and user can understand and use confidently.

Heuristic Evaluation Method

Page 3: Evaluation&Survey

• Match between system and the real world – software need to be understandable with language, words, and order. Tools are at the oriented places, but for me there are too much options, and tools in InDesign.

• User control and freedom – user needs to himself boss during he uses the program. InDesign sometime it is difficult because too much things at there, but even if you are expert user can feel in control.

Page 4: Evaluation&Survey

• Consistency and standards – user should not feel he is in another world; the system should be similar to the conventions. Also, user should meet his expectations according to the Nielsen, because it is important for user to see and find whatever he wants and expects. For example, in InDesign I can find my expectations, because the software provides tools as a same way with other software applications that I use before such as Photoshop, Illustrations.

• Error prevention - is important part to evaluate because we need to provide for users to handle errors, otherwise users may feel lost and don’t want to use anymore. InDesign has a field that shows errors and when user click that it shows what errors are there and where, it is good option for the software

• Recognition rather than recall – as I learned from this heuristic evaluation that application should not be very difficult and complicated for each user. InDesign is a bit complicated but user can find by using a lot. Sometime users need to memorize the steps, but if user is expert it is good and optional software.

• Flexibility and efficiency of use – as all programs for novice users it is a bit difficult first, but when user experienced it is faster to use.

• Aesthetic and minimalist design – tools include needed options and from the top toolbar user can see details for each click.

Page 7: Evaluation&Survey

• Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors – error messages are in plain language and it shows the error’ page.

• Help and documentation – Adobe In Design has a search option to connect directly to the online Adobe InDesign page. Also, there is help option that provides guideline about InDesign, support center and InDesign online.

Survey Method• Usability - Usability is fine as users said, if you are

new learner at the beginning a bit difficult to find the options. For experts it is really good to design and print whatever they want with texts, or pictures.

• • Learn ability - As users mention and also I think so

that at the beginning to learn and memorize all steps are a bit hard but after use a lot it is really good.

Page 9: Evaluation&Survey

• Design - Design is simple and understandable, similar to the other software; one thing is a lot of options, and tools around the page.

• • System capabilities - The response time is fast

enough, it doesn’t stop like some programs even user work fast and much, no failure occurs.
