Energy poverty and development • 1.3 billion people lack access to any form of
electricity and 2.7 billion people still cook over open fires
• Securing access to sustainable energy services for developing countries is a significant challenge for sustainable development
Energy is an enabler and powers opportunities for environmental, social and economic development
First hand knowledge on renewable energy technologies in developing countries often only exists locally or in fragments
• Difficult for individuals to access this information
• Necessary to facilitate and expand diffusion of theses technologies in developing countries through practical knowledge sharing
Why Energy?
Vision • A world of borderless and unrestricted knowledge access
and exchange on renewable energy and energy efficiency issues, in which all people have access to sustainable energy services.
