THE DESCENT – EDITING ANALYSIS

PART 1

These shots are all part of the slower first part of the scene, in which there are 6 shots, separated into 8 different sections with 7 cuts. These span over a time frame of 30 seconds. They give a sense that they are having a quiet & long drive, and most of the information in the scene is given via audio & acting – not via editing or effects. The scene suggests normality & an everyday family journey. The slower pace of the first part of the scene increases the shock of the car crash.

PART 2

In this part of the scene, the two cars on the road crash. These is a sequence of 6 shots that take up only 2 seconds of footage. The editing and the cuts between the shots becomes much faster, to create a sense of shock
