Overview

The AG Uploader Module enhances ENOVIA

implementations by providing an interactive method

for uploading data directly from Excel spreadsheets

into ENOVIA business objects. It can also be

automated to automatically run at a particular time

as a batch process. It also supports tab delimited

text files (non Excel).

A “real world” example: The AG Uploader Module

is benefiting a company today in the area of helping

with the handling of product costing information.

This information is typically entered, frequently

modified, and highly maintained on a daily basis by

product managers and through the use of Excel

spreadsheets. However, it is very important for PLM

system users to benefit from such critical product

information, regardless of “day in the life” processing

by those, responsible for such costing information

data entry.

The AG Uploader Module makes this, and other

common integration needs with Excel a simple and

efficient process.

The AG “Uploader” Module is a powerful and easy

solution to configure and use in a variety of potential

applications. It improves PLM system efficiency

while reducing operations time.

Data validation is paramount to the solution. It

incorporates customizable error checking and log4j

logging, along with time stamped data rollback

logging for each processed “uploader” so a log of

previous values is maintained for future review if

needed. Upload status results can also sent

automatically through email notification. The

Uploader module was developed using open source

foundation software, based on the Apache POI

Toolkit.

This innovative module has been developed and

improved over the last few years with the primary

focus to simplify real time data interaction between

Microsoft Excel and an ENOVIA PLM system.

AG UPLOADER MODULE

Microsoft Excel is one of the

top business tools in use

worldwide. Could YOUR Excel

users benefit from the most

robust interface to

ENOVIA V PLM today?

Highlights & Benefits

• Upload information (attributes, new objects,

relationships, etc…) quickly, easily and

accurately from Excel to ENOVIA V6

• Saves time through use of robust OOTB

“autoname” technology

• Incorporates error checking, logging and data

rollback to help insure data integrity

• Supports both “dry run” processing of data, as

well as batch processing of data

• Performs validation of the information (date,

time, numeric, etc…) before uploading into

ENOVIA V6

• Automatically creates ENOVIA objects,

attributes and relationships as needed

Uploader Schema Admin. ObjectsENOVIA admin schema objects (attributes,

commands and programs) are contained and

provided as part of the Uploader solution. A

customized ENOVIA “autonamer” example is

also included.

Samples ProvidedThe Uploader Module includes examples. From

such examples, companies can more efficiently

learn to create their own usage applications for

their own company needs and benefits.

Attributes & Config. ObjectsEach Uploader can have very specific Excel

column names to type | attribute mappings. The

starting point for the attribute mappings is defined

within a global configuration object (one for each

uploader by name) and its associated attributes.

Default attributes and associated values can also

be defined.

Mapping ScreenOn the mapping screen, the user is given the global mapping choices (in yellow) and can then use (if already defined) or interactively map (add or remove) them to Excel columns (by name – upper right) to the particular type | attribute combinations.

The choices can then be saved into the user’s local configuration object (by user name). These local configuration choices are then displayed as defaults, the next time the Uploader is used by the particular user.

AG UPLOADER MODULE

Pre2verificationUser can click pre-verify information to be

processed with a “dry run” processing and

resulting verification screen. The user will see

the filename of the Excel file which is going to be checked out and processed.

Data VerificationThe AG Uploader Module supports data

verification. Processing of the Excel file is

based on the mapping and verification rules for

each unique Excel file uploader. If ENOVIA

business objects don’t exist (the Uploader first

searched the database), it will inform the user as

to what it is going to do. For example, the

Uploader is highly capable of creating and

connecting ENOVIA business objects (along

with verifying and updating the named and

mapped attributes). Any attributes that fail their

appropriate check rules (date, numeric, string,

blank, etc…) will also be displayed for good

visual feedback.

The number of Excel rows that are available for

processing, is also denoted by the Uploader

module. This gives the user more information

on how many rows/business objects will be

affected (what the Uploader will do after the

verification phase - commit phase). The user

can also see the filename of the Excel file which

was checked out and used for processing.
