Why an Inventory?• WHA Resolution 54.19 target: 75% of all at-

risk school-age children to be regularly treated for helminthes by 2010

• 2008 estimates: 101.2 million SAC treated (11.4% of target population)

• How accurate is this estimate? – Are we not treating enough children? – Do we not have information of all treatment

activities?

Conclusions of WHO Working Group

• Inventory was useful in that it:– Identified the scale of the deworming activities

carried out by NGOs– Contributed treatment data to the PCT Databank– Provides a forum for coordinating NGO

deworming activities

Recommendations ofWHO Working Group

1. Inventory should be continued, and NGOs need to be encouraged to participate in the Inventory and record treatment data

2. WHO should send letters to WHO focal points and Ministries of Health, informing them of the results of the Inventory and encouraging them to collaborate with NGO implementing deworming activities in their country

3. CWW should survey NGOs that did not participate to determine how to increase future participation
