- 2006 ABU General Assembly adopts Declaration on EWBS implementation in the Asia-Pacific Region

- ABU start working with ITU for use of satellite and terrestrial broadcast infrastructures for public warnig, disaster mitigation and relief

ABU/ TSUNAMI FUND PROJECT ON EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS – 2020/2012
Raising awareness among broadcast organisations on:
- the need and importance of a communication system between the authorities and affected public
- adopting internal Standard Operational Procedures in case of disasters – Broadcast Plan
- training editors and reporters about media role before, during and after disaster

OBJECTIVES- Identify disconnections between broadcasters and
DWC/DMO- establish/strenghten country EW/DRR Task Groups to help
integrate broadcasting services and broadcasting transmission services into the meetings, deliberations and plans of DMOs
- Establish/streamline SOP between DWC and broadcasters- Establish internal SOP in participating broadcasters in the
form of EW and Disaster Preparedness Broadcast Plan- Create/strenghten specific units responsible for liasing with
DWC for different natural hazards

SPECIAL FOCUS
Another key goal of the Initiative is to sensitize the broadcast media to their potential in helping convey DRR messaging to the vulnerable populations and communities that are most at risk – women, children, people with disabilities and elder people
