24 HOURS OF REALITY

In 2012, 24 Hours of Reality: The Dirty Weather Report broke the world record for viewers of a live online event, with more than

16 million online views, and won ten prestigious Telly Awards for excellence in online content. The broadcast also generated more

than 165 million impressions on social media. In 2013, we plan to smash this record. For a case study overview of last year's

program, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvRhiKA7g0c

Yes, the economic cost is astronomical. But the cost of carbon is bigger and deeper than just numbers — it is being paid in lives and lifestyles, jobs and well-being. It is a human story, one we will give a voice to.

THE COST OF CARBON IS BEING PAID IN MORE THAN JUST DOLLARS

THE COST OF CARBON

Taking place over 24 hours, this live broadcast event puts a spotlight on every region of the globe — featuring news, voices, and multimedia content. We will hear from experts, cultural icons, musicians, advocates, and everyday people about the impact of climate change on their lives and homes.

This year, 24 Hours of Reality will travel around the globe and begin to do the essential work of calculating the incalculable cost of carbon pollution. Over the broadcast we will focus on the six most inhabited continents: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, South America and North America. Each continent will have a different host, focusing on individual stories and climate issues from that region as well as a special address from Former Vice President Al Gore discussing the way forward and a global call to action.

By focusing the world’s attention on the climate crisis for one entire day, 24 Hours of Reality is intended to power the social revolution for climate action the other 364 days of the year.

24 Hours of Reality will make the cost of carbon personal for the millions watching through an innovative new action tool: the Carbon Tab. The Carbon Tab is an interactive digital experience that offers viewers the opportunity to discover the unique costs of carbon they’re exposed to in their own lives from higher health care bills to drought relief. Viewers can then share these costs with their social networks through Facebook, Twitter, and email.

Over the course of the 24-hour period, we’ll also feature viewer’s costs in the program so they can send the final assessment to their government leaders. By doing so, we’ll build support for a political price on denial and a market price on carbon.
