3. LeNS is a 3 years project (Dec/2007 - Dec/2010) funded by the European Commission (Asia Link Programme, EuropAid), involving 7 design schools in Europe and Asia 4. LeNS partners Tsinghua University, Academy of Arts & Design Beijing, China Politecnico di Milano INDACO Department, Italy (coord.) • promoteanew generationof Asian and Europeandesignerscapable of design for sustainability
  • (through anew generation of design educators )
  • by creating anopen source, copyleftandreplicable learning platform , with an articulated set of didactic materials ( learning resources ), being a disciplinary ground onDesign for Sustainabilityfocused onProduct-Service Systeminnovation, free to use and adaptable by (any) teacher

LENS AMBITION 6. LeSN areas on concern of DxS focused on PSS 7. a platform allowing interested teachers to downloadopen source and copyleft learning resources(slideshows, texts, audio-videos, etc.) that could bemodified/remixedandreused ,i.e.adapted according to each teacher specific didactic needs, institutional requirements and local context particularities MAIN OUTPUT:Open Learning E-Package on DfS 8. MAIN ACTIVITY:8transculturallearning pilot courses: . a EU teacher is guest by an Asian teacher (+ vice versa) and they are observed by a third teacher . Asian students design for EU context and are criticised by EU teacher (+ vice versa) . All lectures are recorded: videos, slides, ... are uploaded (OLEP) 9. THE LOGICAL FRAMEWORK: ATRANSCULTURALLEARNING PROCESS 10. OLEP, Open Learning E-Packagea quick tour to main functionalities 1. downloading/viewing learning resources by teacher/course/year 2. downloading/viewing learning resources by content/type 3. uploading a course (learning resources collection) 11. STORYBOARD 1 downloadview learning resources by teacher/course/year e.g. a STUDENT wants to VIEW learning resources related to the course she/he is attending e.g. a TEACHER wants to set-up/up-date a course on DfS andwants to search for appropriate learning resources to DOWNLOAD, and modify/remix and reuse in her/his course 12. 1.a student/teacher wants to have access to the didactic materials (learning resources) of available courses / teachers a)the student/teacher clicks on Learning resources 13. 2.the student/teacher wants have access to all learning resources of a particular teacher/course/year c) click on the desired teacher/course/ year to access the related learning resources collection a) and selects the teacher section b) selects a desired language/s filtering the availablelearning resources 14. 3.the student/teacher can view and download learning resources by title and by format type d) FINALLY THE TEACHER CAN MODIFY/REMIX AND THEN REUSE IN HER/HIS COURSE c) and click on download a) she/he can view the learning resources b) select learning resources she/he want to download 15. STORYBOARD 2 downloadview learning resources by content / type e.g. a STUDENT wants to VIEW a learning resource related to a specific topic even related to other courses she/he is not attending e.g.a TEACHERwantsto add a content to her/his own course on DfS, andwants to DOWNLOAD specific learning resources, and then modify/remix and then reuse in her/his course 16. 1.thestudent/teacher wants to access all learning resources, with a desired content e) once selected the learning resources it is possible go to view/download c) then search with cross filteringby content, years, formats, license, authors, and resource title a) she/he clicks on search by content / type b) selects a desired language/s filtering available learning resources... 17. section under construction 2.the student/teacher views and downloads resources with desired learning content d) FINALLY THE TEACHER CAN MODIFY/REMIX AND THEN REUSE IN HER/HIS COURSE c) and click to download the selected learning resources a) she/he can view a learning resource b) select the learning resources she/he wants to download 18. STORYBOARD 3 uploading a course (learning resources collection) e.g. a TEACHER wishes to upload her/his own course, a learning resource collection 19. 1.A teacher wants to upload his own course a) she/he clicks on upload/modify b) clicks on Upload a new course ... e) and click on Go to upload/modify 20. 2.the teacher starts the setting-up of the course structure d) FINALLY THE TEACHER CAN BROWSE FOR UP-LOQDING c) ... mayinserts a learning subjectthe learning resource belong to a) inserts the learning resource title of the didactic material she/he wants to upload ... b) inserts the set of contents dealt in the learning resource d) clicks on Upload 21.

  • SO FAR AVAILABLE LECTURES FROM:
  • 1. pilot course at Technical University of Delft
  • 2. pilot course at Politecnico di Milano
  • with video and slideshows of lectures from more than 15 key teachers from Asia, Europe, America, Australia, Africa
  • OTHER CONTRIBUTIONSARE EXPECTED FROM OTHER 6 PILOT COURSES (IIT BEING THE NEXT)

22. LENS WEB-SITE: A REPLICABLE OPEN SOURCE AND COPYLEFT PLATFORM 23.

  • opportunities:
  • . facilitate knowledge dissemination
  • . facilitate continuous and rapid knowledge upgrade
  • . facilitate collaboration between researchers/teachers
  • . facilitate knowledge adaptation in relation to different contexts
  • ...
  • threats:
  • . scientific un-reliability of contents (review is time consuming)
  • . set up of dispersive web platform
  • ...

LENS APPROACH TO SAFEGUARD OPPORTUNITIES AVOIDING THREATS IN A OPEN SOURCE AND COPYLEFT LOGIC1/2 .onlytheLeNS partnerscanup-loadlearning resources and they respond personally to the scientific quality of contents, i.e. partners constitute the scientific board . LeNS is a lens: it isfocusedon design for sustainability, focusedon PSS innovation, i.e. contents arenot dispersive 25.

  • LENS AS REPLICABLE PLATFORM
  • THE SAME LENS WEB PLATFORM IS DOWNLOADABLE AS OPEN SOURCE AND COPYLEFT
  • > any educational institution, teacher, sustainability-focused network, cangenerate a new LeNS-based web-platform ,reconfiguring itby re-defining partners (the scientific board), the sustainability focus, the geographical representation
  • > any new generated web platform upload learning resources independently, thought any is linked with the others

LENS APPROACH TO SAFEGUARD OPPORTUNITIES AVOIDING THREATS IN A OPEN SOURCE AND COPYLEFT LOGIC2/2 26. FIRST AGREED/SCHEDULED REGENERATION BRASIL LeNS Brasilwill be launched the 10 thof November 2009 in Sao Paolo AFRICA LeNS Africawill be launched the 9 thof September 2009 in Cape Town 27. go towww.lens.polimi.it and register tojoin the network 1.if DfS on PSS IS your focus: join and become a member of the network (free), download open learning resources and tools on SPSS; you will receive the lens news letters 2.if DfS on PSS IS NOT your focus or if it is but you want to set up a LOCAL network, download the LeNS site and adapt it to be a support platform for your own issue/local related networking activities, produce your own learning resources and make them publicly available in open source and copyleft 28.
