The Rebellion
In 1814 and then again in 1817-1818, Andrew Jackson led his military forces to West Florida. There was a rebellion and rebels were fighting for America, and defeated and removed several Native American tribes.
Acquisition
The United States officially acquired Florida in 1819. They bought East Florida from Spain for 5 million dollars. It is known as the Adam-Onis Treaty or the Transcontinental treaty and American settlers in Florida rebelled for the rest of the Florida territory.

Luis de Onis, the Spain minister signed the Florida Purchase with John Quincy Adams, the Secretary of State.

Buffer Zone
A buffer zone is an area where a country owns a piece of land that connects with another country to block off disputes. When the United States gained Florida, there were no more disputes between Florida and Georgia.
East and West Florida
East Florida was where Florida is today and West Florida is an addition to the panhandle of Florida and the bottom slices of Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
