If a picture can say a thousand words then Flickr.com is saying

millions of words each day!

Flickr is a photo-sharing community that contains over 73 million photos.

Many of these images combined with Flickr’s designs and tools, can offer many benefits for education.

Using Flickr Photography:

Single photographs can be used as writing prompts.

Multiple images can be used for digital storytelling.

Online stories about images can be created by multiple users sharing their comments and contributing to the story.

Photographs can be linked to their geographical location by map or satellite image.

Virtual field trips can be taken using Flickr and various images.

Upload Your Photos

Here are a few simple ways to upload your photos to Flickr:1. the Flickr Uploadr (available for both PC and Mac)2. via iPhoto, Aperture, or Windows XP plug-ins3. via various free third-party desktop programs4. via Flickr upload web page5. via email

Organize Sets

You can group photos by theme such as:-Sites of the Revolutionary War-Geometry Patterns-Spring Flowers

The Organizr

It’s where your Collections and Sets are created. It also allows you to perform common tasks on large batches of photos, such as tagging, changing permissions, or editing timestamps.

MapsFlickr's great for exploring photos by location.

You can drag-and-drop your photos onto a map (using the Organizr) to show where you took them or browse a world map to see where other people have been and what they saw.

Other Flickr users can write comments for your images.

Who Can Access Your Flickr?Classmates, Friends, and FamilyWhen you add someone as a contact you can also choose to add them as your Friend or Family (or both).

What If Someone Doesn’t Have a Flickr Account?

Use Flickr’s Guest Pass feature to grant someone special access. You’re able to expire the passes whenever you like.

Privacy With Flickr it is easy to control who you share your images with. For each of your photos on Flickr you can set: – privacy levels– content type– safety levels

Geometry - Tessellations Students can find pictures

on the web or take pictures of repeating patterns of various shapes found in their home or nature.

Students will post these pictures to Flickr and comment on the patterns observed.

Picture Prompts Students will visit the Flickr

website and search for pictures in a topic of interest.

Students will create a short

story based on the pictures found.

They can then create tags on each state showing the name of the state and its’ capitol.
