• It is an athletic trainers job to teach athletes how to prevent injuries by stretching and exercising.

• They provide players with tensor bandages, braces, and other equipment.

• Assess and treat the athletes’ injuries.• Refer the athlete to go to the doctor if needed.

• Trainers are involved with 4 aspects of athletes’ health

1. Teach how to prevent injuries by using thorough warm- up techniques and stretching exercises.

2. If an athlete does get injured, the AT would assess the injury to determine how severe it is and how it should be treated.

3. After the AT assesses the injury, the treatment get started,

4. Trainer help the athletes who have gotten injuries to prevent the problem from coming back.

NATURE OF WORK

• AT’s work for sports teams, colleges, high schools, hospitals, etc.

• Team trainers are required to travel with the team.• You need to be in shape because you might have to run

onto the field to help. You also do a lot of standing, bending, and reaching.

• Usually work 5 days a week for 40-50 hours total.• Spend time in the off-season conditioning and

rehabilitating athletes, and may put extra hours in for teaching classes or workshops.

• Bachelor’s Degree, most get their Master’s Degree• Length of on-the-job training depends on employer.

Newly hired AT’s have up to 3 months of on-the-job training,.

• Field of study: Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science and Kinesiotherapy, etc.

TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ADVANCEMENT

• Employment for athletic trainers is expected to grow by 30% from 2010 to 2020 much faster than the average for all jobs.

• Most significant in schools and youth leagues.• As more people become aware of sports related injuries

the demand for AT’s is expected to increase.

JOB OUTLOOK/EMPLOYMENT

• Salaries range from about $26,000-$65,000 a year, with a median annual income around $41,000.

• Trainers working for professional sports teams will make substantially more.

• The longer you have been working as an AT., the more money you will most likely earn.

• Full-time trainers usually receive benefits in addition to a salary.

• Injury tracking software to define the type of injury if there are many possibilities.

• After all the research for being an athletic trainer I still want to be one. It seems like the jobs in our area are going to increase soon.

• I think that I will end up pursuing this job because I have wanted to be one for a while now. This job is the right one for my because I love to watch and play sports and help people.
