• In His trial before the Sanhedrin Jesus confessed He was the Messiah. They used this to accuse Him before Pilate that He claimed to be the king of Israel.

• Pilate tried to release Jesus but the crowd demanded he release the terrorist Barabbas.

• Only Roman citizens enjoyed the protection of the Law. The governor could do what he liked with slaves and non-citizens.

• Pilate had Jesus flogged both as a punishment for disturbing the peace and in the hope this would satisfy the Chief Priests.

• Pilate showed the Jews the weak and bleeding thorn-crowned man.

• He expected them to have pity and ask for his release.

• Pilate underestimated the chief Priests’ hatred and jealousy.

• He was not nailed through the hand but the wrist.

• The feet were nailed through the ankle.

• The cross was not high - little more than six feet.

• Not a cry of defeat but a cry of accomplishment.

• Jesus had finished and fulfilled everything the Father had sent Him to do.

• The soldier pierced the chest of Jesus to verify He was dead.
