Passion of Christ Strengthen Me

Dear Bishop Neumann Family, Graduation is a celebration of the culmination of all that has been accomplished in one season of life, but only in preparation for sending these young men and women into a ‘new life’: discerning their gifts, finding their vocation, and becoming a people destined for glory. Our Graduates are citizens not only of this world, but of the world to come. And to that end, these students of ours will be bright shining examples to those they come into contact with, leading others to the Truth that we have come to know, an encounter with Christ Jesus, our Crucified and Risen Lord. The ceremony is a testament of how we, as a community, have come together to support and give these students every opportunity to succeed, helped them along the way, and now are ready to send them out into the world as Christian witnesses. And we pray that our graduates, regardless of when, or if, or how that ceremony will ever take place, they will be able to stand stronger for what they have been through, and will be ready to be the next pillars of our community. Thank you to the Class of 2021 for your hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout this year, and for sharing your talents, joys, accomplishments with our school. Now go out into the world and do something amazing for the love of God … Roll Cavs! In Christ Fr. Lee Jirovsky Chief Administrative Officer

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for evil, to you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Campus Ministry

The St. Damien of Molokai Endowed Scholarship currently distr ibutes $250 per year and is awarded to the student who best exemplifies Jesus’ words, “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brother, you do unto me”. (Mt.25:40) Congratulations to Anna Tvrdy, who is the recipient of the 2020-21 St. Damien of Molokai Scholarship. This award is granted to a current 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student that has completed his/her service hours at Bishop Neumann and has gone above and beyond in the service of others. Anna is the type of student who leads quietly by example. She has a strong work ethic and is very responsible. Anna has served on the New Mexico Mission Trip. She has gone above and beyond the required service hours and has done a variety of service including working at the St. John’s Bazaar, volunteering at the pro-life stand, and helping with the Knights of Columbus Fish Fries. Congratulations, Anna, for being an outstanding Bishop Neumann role model!

The Lincoln Diocese Youth Ministry office has now opened up more spots for students to attend the summer Steubenville Youth Conference in Spr ingfield, Missour i. Close to 50 Bishop Neumann students have

already registered for the conference which is specialized to address the needs of today’s Catholic youth. With an exciting lineup of speakers, musicians and presenters, the High School Youth Conferences challenge Catholic youth to stand firm in their faith, to rely upon the awesome power of Jesus Christ as their guide, friend and Savior, and to show that faith to the world. The conference is located on the Missouri State University campus. Students will experience a high-energy youth conference where thousands of teens are invited to encounter Jesus Christ through dynamic speakers, engaging music, the Sacraments, small group discussions, and fellowship with other teens. Any student wishing to attend, can now register at http://lincolndiocese.org.

Service Hours for the current school year, 2020-21, need to be completed by August 1st. This summer, students can be completing these hours as well as beginning on next year’s 15 required hours. Keep in mind that 5 hours must be from outside of Bishop Neumann. Service hour sheets can be found on the school website or picked up in the office. These can be turned in the school office during summer business hours or emailed to Gery Kenney at [email protected].

FCCLA is a useful and dynamic national career and technical student or-ganization that aids young men and women in their journey to become lead-ers and teaches them lifelong skills. It demonstrates the importance of un-derstanding how to address important career, community, family, and socie-tal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Nebraska FCCLA has over 2,600 members in 98 chapters across the state. For more information about FCCLA, donations, partnerships, or questions please

contact the advisor Mrs Jonella Wonka, FCS teacher at Bishop Neumann. [email protected] This year our new chapter was busy doing many activities including making masks to donate to the local jail, attending virtual Fall Leadership Workshop, making FCCLA cookbooks and selling them. The Literature for Littles program was a hit at St Wenceslaus. We also planned out FCCLA week in February. And we even had 4 members complete a STAR project! All 4 qualified for state earning a silver medal at districts and a silver medal at state! The 4 members attended virtual SLC and participated in the workshops. We wrapped up the year with our 21/22 officer installation. GALA 2021 had 413 guests, dressed in 1970’s Disco outfits, attending on April 24th at the Starlite Event Center. This was the first Saunders Catholic Schools GALA event outside of the halls of Bishop Neumann, and it was a tremendous success. Our evening grossed over $310,000!! The work of dozens of supporters, donors, sponsors, teachers, students and volunteers provided resources for the three Saunders Catholic Schools. The loving work and stewardship of these individuals provides for the three schools’ infrastructure projects and funds for our STEM initiatives to ensure access to Catholic education for families and their students. With these resources, Bishop Neumann will receive a check for $91,026 while St. John Nepomucene School and St. Wenceslaus School will each receive a check for $45,506. These are the largest funds collected and returned to each of the schools from a GALA event. In addition, this years “Fund-A-Need” campaign was targeted to enhance Bishop Neumann’s STEM initiatives to bring more science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into our coursework. One family, that felt so passionate about this direction and upgrade, offered to match any funds donated that night up to $30,000. With this tremendous donor match offer, we were able to raise $64,252 in roughly 10 minutes. God Bless this family’s generosity and all who helped contribute to this essential upgrade. We are all indebted to the GALA Chair Committee members, Shasta and Mark Pentico; Carla and Zach Kastl; and Jenny and Steve Abler for their hard work, commitment, and sacrifice in order to help GALA 2021 be a success.

Our 2020-2021 Neumann Fund had a goal of $257,500. With just over 30 days left to reach this goal, we have collected $253,250. We are just $4,250 short of reaching our target. Please pray and consider helping us

reach this milestone. Donations can be made on-line: Bishop Neumann High School · Neumann Fund (lglforms.com)

Neumann Jr. High football players: A big key to the success that our varsity football program has enjoyed over the years is the preparation and training that our younger athletes receive. The Neumann coaches invite you to attend our 7th and 8th grade football camp from Monday, August 2nd to Wednesday, August 4th. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. until

approximately noon each day. The cost of the camp is $35 and you can bring the check with you the first day of camp. Please make the check payable to Ron Pavlic. If you will be a 7th grader this year and are sure that you will be playing football in the fall, you can check out your pads after camp is over for the day on Tuesday. This will take about an hour and a half. The equipment fee for 7th graders is $50 and you can write one check for both the equipment fee and the camp fee if you wish ($85 total for both the camp and the equipment fee). 8th graders may also check out pads on that Tuesday. There is no equipment fee for 8th graders who played football last year.

The camp will include instruction in basic football skills, and you will learn about much of the offense and defense that will be used during the junior high (and varsity) football season. Many of the varsity coaches will be there to help, as well as some current Neumann football players. Come learn some basic football skills, meet your teammates and coaches, and become a part of the great tradition that is Neumann football! Please contact Nathan Roche via e-mail ([email protected]) to register for the camp. When you send your registration e-mail to me please include the following information:

1. Athlete’s full name. 2. The grade the student will be in this fall (2021) 3. Athlete’s t-shirt size.

Please try to contact me with any questions and sign-ups before July 17th so we can make a camp plan to best utilize our resources for the number of athletes who will be in attendance. We hope to see you on Monday, August 2nd!

Reminder: All health paperwork (physicals, immunization updates, asthma, diabetes or

anaphylaxis forms) are due to the office no later than AUGUST 2nd. Forms can be found on the Bishop Neumann website:

https://bishopneumann.com/about-us/forms/ Please contact the school office if you have any questions or concerns.
