My family is Christian and I believe in God. I attend St Chad's Anglican Church in Orewa.

In my years before school I don't really remember going to church, other than to Mainly Music. Mainly Music is a Christian group for young children, where the children and parents sing songs and play games.

During my primary school years I attended Stella Maris Catholic Primary School in Silverdale. Every morning we would have prayers, we would pray to God and often have a theme to the prayers. For example, I remember praying for the people of Christchurch and Japan after the earthquakes that they had. Every second Friday the whole school would come together in Hall (Auditorium) to have Liturgy. The Liturgy would be led by one class and often had two parts. These two different parts were Worship and Story. During the worship part we would sing songs and praise God. In the story part we would be read a story that had significance on that day, so if there was a saint day we would be read a story about that saint. Also every single building on the school grounds was named after a saint. My last classroom at Stella Maris was St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Instead of houses we had Buddy Clusters. These were groups of about 3 classes and named after a place of significance during Jesus's life. My buddy cluster during the last year at Stella Maris was Galilee, named after the Sea of Galilee.

So during my primary school years (Year 1-8) religion largely affect my life. I was surrounded by Christianity and it definitely played a large part in creating the person I am today.

Since I moved to Orewa College in 2013, I am no longer widely and openly exposed to religion everyday at school. Although at home religion does shape a large part my family life. Here at Orewa College, Manaaki Orewa college is the substitute for the Christian values that were values system at Stella Maris and there are definitely a lot of similarities.

At home we say grace before eating any major meal. We also pray as a family before we go to bed to thank God for the day that has been. Also my brother and I aren't allowed to use our iPad's on Sunday mornings to keep the day holy and to rest like God did after he created the Earth.

So in conclusion, Religion plays a large part in my day to day life. It affects everything from my mornings and evenings, to eating and technology use. I enjoy going to Youth Church at my church and having Eucharist with the other members of our church. Also believing in God makes me feel safe and understood because I can turn to God with my problems if I'm having a bad day.
