LOVE

Page 13: Life on the highest plane - The consecrated life

• For the love of Christ constrains us; 2 Corinthians 5:14

Page 14: Life on the highest plane - The consecrated life

Love is the basis of Consecration

• Constrained means “pressed on from all sides,” tightly confined on all sides. Christ’s love binds us. Wrapped in His love.

Consecrated SELF

• Jessie Penn-Lewis was a woman whose writings have helped many people understand the way of the cross.

• About ten years after her conversion, when seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit, she tells of how she got a terrible revelation. She saw a hand holding up a bundle of filthy rags and a gentle voice saying, “This is the outcome of all your past service for God”.

Page 22: Life on the highest plane - The consecrated life

Consecrated SELF

• She protested that she had been consecrated to the Lord for years. But the Lord told her that all her service had been merely consecrated SELF – the outcome of her own energy and her own plans. And then she heard one word spoken to her, “Crucified”.

What does Consecrate mean?

• Consecration is putting Jesus absolutely first in our life, above all else, be ready, be prepared to serve him and do what He asks. Because we are in love relationship with our Lord! Jesus asks us to take up our cross daily. Luke 9:23 “Then he said to them all: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”

Page 25: Life on the highest plane - The consecrated life

What does Consecrate mean?

• Consecration means that we say, “Lord, You have given me the opportunity and the right to come before You and to serve You.” It is saying, “Lord, I am Yours. My ears were purchased by the blood; they belong to You. My hands were purchased by the blood; they belong to You. My feet were purchased by the blood; they belong to You. From now on I can no longer use them for myself.” (Watchman Nee)
