Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) History

• Developed in the US by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. During the courtship of Isabel to Clarence Myers, her future husband, her mother noticed how differently Clarence saw the world around him and began an extensive study on different temperaments.

• Inspired by Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung (considered one of the founders of modern psychology), and his publication of Psychological Types in 1921.

• MBPI first published in 1943

• In a post-WWII effort to help people know themselves and benefit personally and professionally from their knowledge, the test became more widespread. Today it is the most popular personality indicator test in the world.

Embrace Your Type

Psalm 139:1-6• 1 You have searched me, LORD,

and you know me.2 You know when I sit and when I rise;

you perceive my thoughts from afar.3 You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.4 Before a word is on my tongue

you, LORD, know it completely.5 You hem me in behind and before,

and you lay your hand upon me.6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too lofty for me to attain.
