God-Fearing People Will ListenAct 13:14-16 NKJV But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. (15) And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on." (16) Then Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:

God-Fearing People Will ListenWhat does is mean to fear God?

1. Children used to fear their parents.2. Fear – phoeō to put to flight by terrifying (to

scare away), to fear, be afraid (Thayer)3. Means not only to fear, but to have awe and

deep respect.4. Eccl. 12:13-14

God-Fearing People Will Listen

1. God-fearing Jews and others who feared God met in Synagogues on the Sabbath in that day.

2. It was customary to ask any guest if they desired to speak after a reading from the Law and Prophets.

3. Those who fear God are eager to hear His Word.4. God’s Word still has power to demand attention, Rom. 1:16.

God-Fearing People Want to Hear More of God’s Word

1. Read Acts 13:42-43.2. Act 13:12 NKJV Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what

had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.3. They wanted to hear more4. Many began to follow Paul and Barnabus.

1. A big crowd came to hear the Word of God, Acts 13:44.2. Salvation was first preached to the Jews, Romans 1:16.3. Success will create trouble.4. By refusing to believe and obey the Jews were considering

themselves unworthy for salvation.5. Act 13:46 NKJV Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, "It

was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

Mat 10:14-15 NKJV And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. (15) Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!

Act 13:50-52 NKJV But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. (51) But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium. (52) And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

1. God sent His Son, John 3:162. Rom 5:8 NKJV But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in

that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.3. Eph 2:8 NKJV For by grace you have been saved through faith,

and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,4. Eph 1:7 NKJV In Him we have redemption through His blood, the

forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace5. Gal. 3:26-29.6. Rejection of God’s Word is the only thing that will keep you lost.
