DescriptionAs part of my Master in Ministries program I'm taking a class entitled "Contemporary Theological Issues." This is a discussion of issues for which Bible believing Christians have various views (such as the interpretation of Genesis 1 - was it literally six days or was it six periods of time).

Facebook offers support and encouragement for me as a single mom. Facebook and email is a good place to share scripture and fellowship time between church on Sundays and Wednesdays. It is also a great resource for devotions, praise music, etc. (0000002333)

This is great for parents with sick children, people who are homebound, in the military etc. We recently had a person come from Canada to be baptized at our church. A local church will have to work pretty hard to compete with flashier churches all around the world drawing their people away into a virtual "perfect church" world; there is far more exposure to good causes desiring donations so it draws money that might otherwise be given to support the ministries of the local church--this has a global effect as well when churches do not have the means to support global missions on the level they once did; We actually have seen very negative ramifications by a lot of ultra-legalistic rhetoric on the internet that confused people in our congregation and called into question music or materials we were trying to use. There are a lot of divisive "preachers" out there that cause local in-the-pulpit pastors a lot of grief. I think all religions should be more tolerant of other religions and beliefs--for most religions have the same basic concepts--and that can be spread to millions through the Internet. (0000002323)

I believe so. Paul became all things to all people in order to save some. Jesus I believe he did the same. He ate and spoke with the prostitutes, tax collectors, and sinners. He criticized the Pharisees for being fake and pious. Unfortunately, that is what we as the church do sometimes today. We accuse everyone of doing horrible things, we judge, and we refuse to associate ourselves with our so called "riff-raff" of society. Instead of preaching God's love and forgiveness of sin, we preach against Homosexuality, Abuse, Drinking, Drugs, Abortion, etc. Jesus would have used what they know best to reach them. I think he would so that he could connect with the new generation of people who only know that means of communication. My guess is that Jesus would have some method that we haven’t explored or considered as of yet. 14. Any last thoughts about the impact of the Internet on the Church that would help me with my project.As with most things in life moderation is key. I think it's very important for the Church to keep up with technology and the way in way society connects. However, personal interaction is a must as the Church consists of our brothers and sisters and we should have close relationships with them, which cannot be handled strictly online. (0000002370)

Because of growth in technology, privacy is dwindling. Jesus' ultimate act of love was public. I think Christians will be forced out in the open or reject the upcoming society all together. Only that answering this survey and in particular question 13 has made me think about our reliance on the internet and just how far it should go. On the other hand there is always the argument that I am sure there are some who have been saved through this media. (0000002382)

Satan is know as "the prince of the power of the air" and the internet is a big sorce for sin and vile, ugly things. But we can use it to bring God the Glory. And we should. I use Facebook to Praise the Lord. Who knows how and when the Lord will use what I write to help someone in need. I also am a counselor for Global Media Outreach. I have counseled folks from all over the world. They go online and ask a question about God, they are given a chance to accept the Lord or to say they want to know more. Then their information is sent to someone like me and we deciple these folks over the internet. I have spoken to over 600 people and about 350 have written back to me. There is an issue of Leadership Journal magazine regarding reaching and ministering to the iGens...Summer 2009 issue...while not directly about internet & church, it deals with some of the issues facing churches in dealing with this isolated iGeneration. Alternately, Barna has some great resources that touch on things.... Did you know that the generational divide between Boomers & X is one of technology and that anyone who graduated high school prior to 1984 is Boomer and post 1984 was GenX...and the significance of this is attitude & understanding of technologies--Xers grew up with computers as did all subsequent generations....interesting phenomenon when you look at the sociological results in individual v. group mentality, acceptance of & reliance upon technologies, etc. Fascinating stuff...(gleaned from Barna's Boiling Point, etc.) Also, maybe of interest, our international organisation just went to a paperless application process for processing of missionary candidates--the oldies in the organization really struggled with this "new way of doing things" but the applicants themselves expected it. makes our work quicker & easier so we're able to process cross-cultural workers and get them placed faster (0000002350)
