Advises and guide for visits to Hospitals(Sharing my experience)

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy”. (Mathew 5,7).

One feature that should distinguish the Apostles of Divine Mercy is mercy towards others. Our Lord Jesus Christ proposed three ways to exercise mercy and asks us through Saint Faustina; I am giving you three ways of exercising mercy toward your neighbor: the first-by deed, the second-by word, and the third-by prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy, and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. (Diary, 742)

St. Faustina learned that when practicing the works of mercy, who actually served was the same merciful Savior " Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

The devotion practices revealed through Sister Faustina were given to us as "recipients of mercy "through which God's love can spill over the world, but we must also show mercy to our neighbors. Putting in practice mercy is not an option of devotion to the Divine Mercy. It is a requirement!. Jesus speaks strongly to Saint. Faustina about this:“I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to excuse or absolve yourself from it. (Diario, 742).

Hospital visits are considered a great act of mercy to others, they are helpful for patients, their families and friends who receive comfort, peace and hope. the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion is often the key to the success of the visits to Hospitals, this way God will dwell in us and then "He is the one who will make the visits through us" bringing peace that only He can give. Of course we'll always ask for the presence of the Blessed Virgin, so we will always go hand in hand with Jesus and Mary. Do not forget that the testimony of our life is very important, we must set an example to follow with our lives, we must reflect the presence of God in our person.

It is advisable to have a trusted priest to be our spiritual director, on the road will arise some doubts and ideally he help us resolve them.

The desire to carry out these visits, God has placed in your heart, you must fully trust in Him, He has chosen you and help you carry them out, He asks us to do everything in our power and all other , He will take care!

In our scope is as a first step "prayer" and that approach God to encourage and motivate us to perform this work of visiting the sick, we will make our "Faith" increase. Our faith must be increased day by day and to transmit it, we must have that great conviction that "Faith" is the great secret and faith we will have that much confidence so necessary for God to work in us.We ourselves must approach Jesus with all boldness, always saying; Jesus, I trust in You! And he made the promise that Jesus promised:

I am Love and Mercy itself. When a soul approaches Me with trust, I fill it with such an abundance of graces that it cannot contain them within itself, but radiates them to other souls. (Diary, 1074) “Encourage the souls with whom you come in contact to trust in My infinite mercy. Oh, how I love those souls who have complete confidence in Me. I will do everything for them.” (Diary, 294)

As a result of prayer, you will surely get open doors of hospitals you visit where you, if one, in particular does not allow your service, do not be discouraged, go to one that is certainly the one where you are needed, God always allows things for a greater good, although sometimes we feel otherwise (trust in Him)

When arriving to the hospital, and you must be well prepared, with a great closeness to God and deep knowledge of devotion to the Lord of Divine Mercy.

You must present yourself to the public relations office, and ask to be allowed to provide the service to visit the sick, in order to provide comfort, peace and hope, with the clarification that if there is ever a complaint, visits will be immediately suspended. It is important to go with the conviction that it is Jesus who is coming and we are only the vehicle, we go along with Him

The Hospital must provide you with information every day; ("a census"). You will then be informed of the rooms of Catholic people to be visited.

I- Preparation:

1 “prayer” and great closeness to God (previously mentioned, is very important)

You should read he Diary of St. Faustina as much as possible. It is indispensable. While you can get it, you have access to it via the website: www.jesusdivinamisericordia.org.mx . there is also a book called El mundo conseguirá la Paz si se entrega a Mi Misericordia (The World will get Peace if it surrenders to My Mercy) (book published in Madrid, Journal extract) it can be purchased if you order it to [email protected] , in order to have more readable and accessible about this subject.Web Site Content: www.jesusdivinamisericordia.org.mx should be read in depth to help you know well the devotion of the Lord of Divine Mercy.

There is another series of books that is very important to read, including books by John Paul II and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who have been my greatest teachers of Charity. Later, I will suggest some books that can be helpful, many of them about suffering and pain, I will also include a few prayers that will be of great help.

If you have experienced Suffering and pain closely in your own life, your experience will be an extraordinary tool for this work. When one has suffered, he/she has become more sensitive to human suffering much better! He/she has become more compassionate and can, in some way, understand the patient and their families better. He/she has experienced God's merciful love, a love so big that overflows and all that remains is the desire to give it to the others. It is wonderful to share this great treasure with those who suffer.

We must always ask God to let you "feel the pain of the people and families who you visit", that way you will be welcomed in a different way, they will see that you are really interested in helping, somehow they will see that mercy, feeling the love of God and also your prayer for them will be more intense, somehow their suffering becomes yours.

3 - You need to have images, humans are sensitive and use our senses, the images help the experience and bring us closer emotionally, furthermore Jesus Himself was the one who requested that every soul should have access to the Image of the Lord of Divine Mercy to receive graces through it.I recommend you to give away images of the Lord of Divine Mercy and Our Lady of Guadalupe with prayers in the back (recommended prayers are the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the consecration to the Virgin, and the prayer to Archangel St. Michael. The Message of Jesus is another prayer that brings a lot of peace and trust in the Lord).

The Image of the Virgin of Guadalupe will always open doors. When in doubt of whether you're Catholic or not, the image of the Virgin will help you identify yourself as such and will give people confidence. You can get the images wherever you want, or if I want I can provide them, with a shipping charge and, if possible, a donation, should be according to your possibilities, so that I can print more, so that more people have opportunity to have them. [email protected]. All images that I send are

already blessed (they go directly from the press to the Church to receive the blessing)

4 When you head to the hospital to do your round of visits, do a lot of prayer on your way, at least the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Holy Rosary, offering your prayers for the sick people will visit that day. When you arrive to the Hospital, if you want, before getting out of your car, pray the Consecration, to Merciful Jesus and the radiate Christ's prayer (will help a lot):

CONSECRATION TO MERCIFUL JESUS:

O Merciful Jesus! Your goodness is infinite and the treasures of your Grace are inexhaustible, I surrender myself to Your Mercy that surpasses all Your works. I consecrate myself totally to You to live under the rays of Your Grace and Your love which sprang from Your heart, pierced on the ctoss.

I want to make Your Mercy known through the corporal and spiritual works, especially for the sinners, consoling and adding the poor, afflicted and the ill but You will protect me as your protection since I fear everything from my weakness and expect everything from Your Mercy.

May all humanity understand the unfathomable abyss of Your Mercy, so that putting all its hope in it may extol it for all eternity, Amen

RADIATE CHRISTAuthor Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere I go.Flood my soul with Your spirit and life.Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly,That my life may only be a radiance of Yours.

Shine through me, and be so in meThat every soul I come in contact withMay feel Your presence in my soul.Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus!

Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine,So to shine as to be a light to others; The light, O Jesus will be all from You; none of it will be mine;It will be you, shining on others through me.

Let me thus praise You the way You love best, by shining on those around me.Let me preach You without preaching, not by words but by my example,By the catching force of the sympathetic influence of what I do,The evident fullness of the love my heart bears to You.

AMEN.

Ask Jesus to use your eyes, your mouth and your voice, but let His eyes, his smile and his words, not look at you, but Him in you.

On several occasions, a situation will arise where a lot of things may get on your way to keep you from getting to the hospital. Yes!, well it happens and when it is so obvious it is because it is very likely that something fruitful is coming. Remember that the enemy is not happy with this work we do, our job is to bring people to God and to save souls, but don’t give up, pray harder and let go of what is stopping you from reaching your goal. Overcome the obstacle and you will realize the reason of the impediment, you will, notice this reality (if you can, bring along the St. Benedict medal for your protection)Try to dress in light colors, you will create a softer and peaceful environment, I recommend beige or white (this is what I wear).

Always before knocking on the door of the room, you must invoke the Holy Spirit and say: Lord I launch my nets in thy name to give glory to God. (PLEASE, YOU TAKE CARE, You leave it in His hands, never be afraid, He is with you).

In the seven years I've been doing this work, very few people have rejected me, I can count them with the fingers of one hand. But if this happens, DO NOT get discouraged!, Continue with the following rooms and pray more for them. I am sure they were the ones who needed your visit the most (in one of those rejected visits and that hardly accepted the image at the door, they received a very big favor through the image of the Lord of Divine Mercy I left them. Later, they contacted me to let me know about the favor, they apologized and thanked me).

II. WORDS IN THE ROOM

Knock at the door and ask if you can come in for a moment, Knock softly to avoid waking up the patient or family (they may be sleeping).Always greet warmly, just say good morning or good afternoon, depending on the case and if they are eating say bon appetit, never ask “How are you” (it is well known that most of them are not well and many will not appreciate the question, it is best to avoid it)

After the greeting say: I would like to give you an Image (It is important to note that you bring a gift, most people think that you going to ask for money, we must avoid giving this impression as much as possible), immediately after telling them it is a gift, ask them if they are Catholic (if you ask them if they are Catholic from the beginning before mentioning the gift, the idea of having to give money away may cross their minds and they may answer they are not. If they know that this is a gift from the beginning, their attitude in the way they welcome you). Most people will answer they are Catholic. In the event of having an error in the list, and they answer they are not, you must apologize, noting that they were on the list by mistake, but, that either way you hope they have a very speedy recovery (you should never look like a nuisance, but on the contrary, you must be a great testimony of goodness and kindness, regardless the religion of the patient).

5

Page 6: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

- When there is no opportunity to talk

Sometimes it is not appropriate to speak, then you just have to leave the Image, mention that you bring that gift, tell him/her to say the prayer of the Chaplet, if possible and best, at 3:00 pm. Since this is the Hour of Mercy (the time of the death of Jesus) and when greater graces and blessings are received. It is also convenient to tell him/her to entrust to the Lord of Divine Mercy with confidence. Mention that we have known of great favors obtained through Him when we put all our trust in Him and you may tell ho,/her that you will pray for his/her fast recovery.Sometimes there is no opportunity to mention this, so we only leave the image..One must be very cautious and know when to speak or when not to speak. circumstances with each patient's are different, some are in great need of being heard, others will need your words and others do not want to know anything. If you cannot say anything and just leavet the image of the Lord of Divine Mercy, because it was more convenient at the time, have the confidence that God will act anyway. Jesus said:

By means of this Image I shall be granting many graces to souls; so let every soul have access to it. (Diary,570)

-When there is opportunity to talk only a little

When you have a chance to talk, but only a little, concentrate on trying to talk about how to find meaning and how to cope with suffering and pain:

First show the Image, then you will say that this Image has been blessed, (Image of the Lord of Divine Mercy and Our Lady of Guadalupe). You will mention that Jesus and the Virgin are always with us but in difficult moments their presence is much more evident. (You can say you do not have the sensitivity of Juan Diego, nonetheless the Virgin also tells us: "Do not be afraid, Am I not here who am your Mother?)

It is very important to tell them that they will find the Chaplet on the back of the Image and that they must ideally pray it at 3:00 o’clock because it is the Hour of Mercy. Jesus said that whatever you ask at 3.00 o’clock through the merits of His Passion, if it is the will of God the Father, it shall be granted.

We must also tell them that Jesus asked Saint Faustina that we should pray the Chaplet, offering it for the sinners, for the souls in purgatory (they can only achieve glory our intersection) and family and close friends who are far from God (He will help us to have them converted)

It is important to mention that the great secret is the trust we have when praying. We must let them know that we condition graces, graces are granted according to our trust. The bigger the trust, the grater the graces to be received, of course, the poorer the trust, the fewer the graces. Faith leads us to that trust but Faith is not improvised, we must ask for them every day, we must ask God to increases our faith.

We must Tell the sick that Faith is the greatest treasure we have in on earth, that they can take

6

Page 7: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

away our money, house, clothes, health ...., "nobody can take away our Faith" and that with " Faith "we will be able to transform suffering and pain .. tell the patient that John Paul II said that there were two roads in suffering and pain (and he did suffer very much), people will be interested in listening, they always like to hear from John Paul II (I have always felt that he has helped me very much in my apostolate):

When pain and suffering are present there are two “roads” to confront them

First road: the one most of the people sadly choose; it’s to get desperate, to get anxiety and even complain to God Our Lord (being defiant: why me, why?)

The second road : FROM THE FAITH. feel the pain and suffering (because we cannot stop feeling them because we are human) but offer them to the Passion of Jesus, join Him in His pain, then we grieve with him (it hurts Him less and hurts us less too) and thus our pain becomes redemptive and then we can (for the sake of offering):

-send souls in purgatory to glory (they will intercede for us)

-send blessings to our families

-help purify our soul

-help in the conversion of sinners

- And best of all, we will receive great peace and great acceptance!, Then we find a reason for suffering: "the salvific meaning" and the merit of suffering is not lost, because suffering, just for the sake of suffering is absurd, but if we offer this experience to the Passion of Jesus, suffering makes sense.

Tell the patients to give themselves the opportunity to offer their difficult moments to the Passion of Jesus (anytime, in the present or in the future) and tell them that it will surely be easier to cope with these moments.

Tell them that we don’t have to ask for suffering to offer it to God because we would be masochists, but, when we are suffering, we can find a meaning when we offer it. Then. “instead of being victims of pain, we will make the pain a victory”!

You can tell them that one day you Heard these thoughts and you liked hem very much:

Dear Lord, goods are bad if You are not in them. Ills are good if You come with them because what good will it bring to have goods without You? And ills with You, aren’t they the best goods? Lord there is no joy without You and no sorrow with You.

You will say that God likes to listen to us and to know that we have great trust in Him. God knows what we need and He will help us. If we let Him, He will turn our difficulties into something

7

Page 8: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

favorable for us. He knows how to take goods from ills, and from terrible ills, great goods! He will never allow needless suffering or pain greater than our strength. Although sometimes we do not understand, God will always do what’s best for us. When you see fit, you may tell the patient that sometimes God allows some darker moments in our lives because He knows that something good will come out of it.

Sometimes suffering more human, more compassionate, sometimes love is nurtured with pain and often is the way to bring us back to God. Being in a hospital as a patient making a pause and reflect on our lives. If we don’t know pain, we don’t know joy. When we want to see the most beautiful star at night, look for the darkest corner so that it can appreciate it. God is never wrong, He is often preparing us for "something big".

If even in the little time you have to talk to the patient you find a few more minutes, you can tell him/her, that he/she must look at the heart of Jesus as a fountain in a garden, he/she can see the stone fountain in the garden, and go and take a glass of water. If he/she would like some more, a jar can be used, and if more water is wanted a barrel can be used, for the heart of Jesus is like that fountain. The fountain is the heart, the water that flows are blessings, graces, mercy, His love poured out for us and the container used to receive it, is the little glass called trust. If our trust is small, the reception capacity will be small, this glass of trust will overflow and spill. Love for us will always flow from His heart. It depends on us whether we receive it or not, I hope we have a big barrel of trust. (We have to ask God for it every day)

- When there is an opportunity to talk more

DEVOTION

Talk about all the aforementioned and include a new topic: Devotion. Say it’s a devotion filled of great importance, that it was Jesus Himself who came to give the message,. He appeared to Saint Faustina, choosing her to spread the message of of the Divine Mercy, showing the world to live with trust in God and live His Mercy. Jesus brings us an Eucharistic message.

Jesus asked Saint Faustina to paint the Image according to the pattern she was seeing to be venerated first in her chapel and then throughout world. With this image Jesus would grant great graces to the souls. His wish was that all the souls could have access to the graces.

Never before in the history of our church had there been a picture painted by the command of God Himself and where he presents Himself bringing peace.

One of the soldiers with a spear opened his side: and immediately there came out blood and water. These are the rays of Mercy that have a beautiful meaning revealed by Jesus. The red ray means the last drop of blood and the pail ray means the drop of water. Both rays represent the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church: the pale ray represents penance and forgiveness and the red ray, Eucharist or Communion. Therefore, the two rays in the Image of Mercy are an invitation to participate in the Sacraments often and thus distinguish between good and evil because temptations are big and come in disguise, if we don’t receive the Holy Communion frequently it is

8

Page 9: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

very likely that we may fall in evil without even noticing it.God is a father full of love and kindness, He will forgive all our sins if we come with a contrite and humble heart to the court trial of His Mercy here on earth: “ the confessional”

It should be mentioned that God is infinitely merciful but He also also asks us to be merciful to others in order to reach the Divine Mercy, and we must learn to forgive the offenses of others, if we do not forgive and have feelings of revenge and resentment in our hearts , the graces of our Lord will not penetrate. Our hearts will be so hard that they will not allow the Graces in, they will slip.

JOHN PAUL II

Put a little emphasis on John Paul II. Mention that he was the Pope of Mercy who wrote his encyclical called Rich in Mercy where he speaks of Jesus Christ as the incarnation of mercy. Through his example, John Paul II taught us how we should exercise mercy in our lives (he forgave the person who attempted on his life and taught us how we must be merciful to reach the Divine Mercy).

It should be mentioned that the devotion to the Divine Mercy started in Poland and was very dear to John Paul II who gave great support to spread It; John Paul II canonized St. Faustina, the nun who had the revelations of Jesus and instituted the Feast of Mercy, celebrated the second Easter Sunday (the Sunday after Easter Sunday). To say that John Paul II died five years after on April 2nd

2005 when the Church had been liturgically entered the Sunday of Divine Mercy and was beatified also during the Feast of Mercy (showing us that he continues working from heaven to raise awareness of this devotion that will only bring good to humanity) will draw attention and give them confidence to people.

John Paul II, Pope of Mercy, through his example, showed how to give the message of trust to God and live His mercy in our lives. He strongly emphasized the Trust to the Lord.

FEAST OF MERCY AND JPII

If possible we must talk about the Feast of Mercy. It is also important to Mention that is always held the second Easter Sunday since 2000. Pope John Paul II instituted it when canonizing Sister Faustina (April 30, 2000, first Saint of the millennium).John Paul II instituted the Feast to follow the command of Jesus to St. Faustina. Jesus requested it at least 14 times (mentioned in the Diary). That day the soul who comes to confession (8 days before or after if there is no grave sin) and receives the Holy Communion, shall be forgiven of all sins and pains, the soul will be in a state of newly baptized. As something interesting you can mention that the Pope died within the liturgical celebration of this feast (on the eve, the liturgy is celebrated ever since), John Paul II was able to be, in life, in the Mercy Mass at 8 pm, received the Holy Oils and received Holy Communion. 20 minutes later he died; at 9:37 Vatican time.It was truly was symbolic (showing us God how he was a most beloved son)

9

Page 10: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

John Paul II, obtained the revocation of the prohibition of spreading the devotion through the messages of St. Faustina in 1958. The Vatican had banned them done as a precautionary manner since it had received translations that were confusing and had no way to verify them due to the political situation at that time. Karol Woltija, Archbishop of Krakow, studied with theologians for 10 years and in April, 1978 achieved the revocation, thus giving authorization to this cult through the messages of St. Faustina .., three months later this Archbishop becomes Juan Paul II. St. Faustina, mentioned in the Journal, in a prophetic way, that over a period of 20 years the devotion will seem to disappear, but after that, it will come even stronger.

This has happened!, Thousands of people around the world, nourish their life in the spirituality of the Divine Mercy and many have returned to the Father motivated by this last call of the Lord to have trust in God and live His mercy.

THE IMAGE

Most of the people know the Image that was painted in 1944, 10 years after the first one. If you see fit, you can mention that there are several images of the Lord of Divine Mercy and through any of them The Lord will grant Graces, as He promised.

The first Image was painted by a Polish painter, led by St. Faustina in1934, this was kept protected during World War II to avoid the possibility of being destroyed during the Catholic persecution. Those who had a copy of that picture, in Poland, providentially their homes were not bombed. Then a Polish soldier painter, not wounded during the war appears and looks for the congregation to paint something in gratitude, the sisters asked him to paint a Merciful Jesus (they did not know the whereabouts of the original) from some descriptions found in the Diary and a copy he had from the original, paints, under his own inspiration the picture so well known and venerated in Krakow. The sisters receive from Adolf Hyla, as a votive offering, the painting and place it over the remains of St. Faustina. And the spreading throughout the world begins. The first picture, emerges again in 1993. Pope John Paul II, in Lithuania, mentioned that this picture (painted in 1934) is a holy Image and that it was painted again so that it was not destroyed.

HOUR OF MERCY 3:00 o’clock pm, It is convenient to inform people. Jesus, called it The Hour of Mercy because it was the hour of his death and said that whatever you ask at this hour through the merits of My Passion, will be granted if it is the will of God the Father. It is convenient to pray The Chaplet at this hour. The Chaplet is the prayer Priests recommend as the last hope of salvation

I advise you that if you are visiting the hospital at this time, visit the patients of intensive care, if the family allows you. Generally you can investigate in the waiting room who are Catholic and you offer to go inside and pray for and with the family (before you do this, check with the people in charge of intensive care if access is possible in case the family authorizes it), intermediate care is different because there almost always, in most cases the patient is accompanied by family member. It is best not go inside intensive care if there is not a family member that can authorize it (to avoid

10

Page 11: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

any conflict), one must be very careful to avoid shutting Hospital doors.

If it's 3:00 o’clock and there was no opportunity to visit the intensive care area, pray the Chapelet where you are at that hour. (asking the patient you are visiting). When I'm not in therapy at that time praying, I tell the patient in turn: I always pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 o’clock wherever I am, Would you mind if I pray the Chaplet here and pray it with you and for you? He7she will surely accept ift it is appropriate.

III. KEEP IN CONTACT WITH THE PATIENT AND HIS/HER FAMILY

Sometimes you can keep in touch, if you realize that God is moving the heart of a patient you visit or anyone of his/her family. Through experience you will realize when it happens. Sometimes the tears of the person who listens to you spring. Suddenly you will feel the chill through your body (the presence of God is evident). Then, if you consider it appropriate, try to keep in touch, talk to him/her about the great promise of Jesus to the souls who spread the devotion of the Divine Mercy:

“Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire lives as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Savior!. (Diary, 1075)

They will surely be interested in helping to spread the devotion and you can continue to give comfort through the internet, sending words of encouragement, prayers, videos ... (you will get inspiration little by little). Ask for their mail, always asking if they would like to receive more images (those on your possession, or those you are able to get through [email protected] or by yourself).

It is very encouraging to always tell all the patients you visit that you will pray for them and if you can offer prayers before the Blessed Sacrament exposed, let them know. Tell them that list with the names of the patients you visit, will be placed before Jesus at the time of the Eucharistic Adoration. Everyone likes to know that his name will be before Jesus (only offer it if you are sure you will do it), hopefully you can pray for them this way. Jesus listens in a special way when you are “fce to face” (I have experienced it!)

IV. ALWAYS GIVE A GOOD IMPRESSION

With your attitude of kindness, people will want to have you back (although the opportunity may never come across). Never refute, listen to the one that needs to be heard and if he says he/she says he/she does not think the same way you do, you will say: I respect you, I invite you to trust Him and just give you the opportunity to.... (Surely God will put words in your mouth and if not, He will act in His time [TRUST])

Sometimes you will recognize when a patient and/or family are people of prayer, almost always you will perceive it immediately; peace reigns in the room, you are listened with great attention and is easier to find someone there who may be willing to help spread the devotion. Many times you'll find a look so soft and sweet that it will resemble the look of Jesus (at least, I like

11

Page 12: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

picture it this way and it comes to mind what Jesus said: "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers you do onto me ", and that's how I picture it. It is very beautiful!).Mother Teresa of Calcutta and St. Faustina said: what I do I’m doing to Jesus Himself.

Other times, you will find the opposite, a look so hard, strong and sometimes perceive hatred: that's when it takes a lot more than prayer. Make a small mark on the list next to the name to remember and you increase your prayer specially for that person. It is very important to speak softly, despite the strong and hard look and always show the Image of Jesus while speaking, suddenly sometimes you will notice that this person is getting smoother (I recommend to always carry the medal of St. Benedict)

V. RECOMMENDED PRAYERS

It will be very useful to have these prayers with you to use them accordingly to the case and the opportunity with the sick people

BEFORE THE OPERATION

“Heavenly Father, I humbly place myself in your hands. At this time of preparation for my operation, I ask forgiveness for my sins. I also beg you to guide doctors and nurses in their delicate work, so that they know to be faithful interpreters of your holy will. In these tense moments of waiting I beg you to encourage my family and friends”. Amen

AFTER THE OPERATION

"Lord, I am deeply grateful, for having gone well through this operation. Reward and bless the team of doctors and nurses who made this possible. That this hard experience remind me of Your passion and suffering for the sins of mankind, and that it inspires compassion for my sick brothers and a full Christian life. Let me not forget this test and that this experience be the one to drive me to live beside You here on earth as a path to eternity. Amen "

PARAYER OF THE SICK PERSON

“Lord, You know all things and you know I love you.Help me to always take into account human limitations as well as my own weakness. Give me a sincere and generous spirit of acceptance of pain in my illness. May your grace help me not to lock myself in me. Give me the courage to see your hand acting in me through my illness without even realizing it. When I’m sad and depressed not let me loose my trust in You. Teach me to be open to appreciate the efforts of doctors and nurses to help alleviate and bear my illness with holy resignation. Grant me to be sympathetic with the limitations of those around me. Help me, Lord, from falling into despair. Give me your faith and I ask you to continue blessing me today and every day of my life. Amen”

TO RECEIVE MERCY IN DIFFICULT MOMENTS

Eternal God, in whom mercy is unfathomable and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase your Mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair, nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy Itself.

“Message From Jesus”

(Prayer to open the door to trust)Author: Father Dolindo Ruotolo

Why do you confuse yourselves by worrings?Leave the care of your affairs to me and everything will be better for you. When you give Yourself to me, everything will be resolved peacefully according to my designs. Do not despair; do not lead a hectic prayer, as if you would like to demand compliance of your wishes. Close your eyes and soul tell Me calmly: 'JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.'

Avoid worries and anxieties and all thoughts about what may happen next. Do not ruin my plans by imposing your ideas. Let me be God and act freely. Let yourself in me confidently. Rest on me and leave in my hands your future. Often tell Me: 'JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.'

What most hurt you are your reasoning and your own ideas and wanting to solve things your way. . When you say 'JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.', do not be like the patient who tells the doctor to heal him but suggests how. Let yourself go in my divine arms, do not be afraid, I LOVE YOU.

If you think things are getting worse or are complicated in spite of your praying, remain confident, close your soul’s eyes and trust. Continue saying to me at all time:'JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.'

I need My hands to act freely. Do not tie me down with your unnecessary worries. Satan wants that: Agitate you, angst you and take your peace away. Trust only on Me, abandon yourself in Me. So, don not worry, Place all your worries in me and sleep peacefully. Always tell me: 'JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.'And you'll see big miracles.

I promise for My love.

Prayers I recommend to do on your own

TO ATTAIN THE GRACE OF BEING MERCIFUL WITH OTHERS

I want to be completely transformed into Your mercy and to be Your living reflection, Oh Lord. May the greatest of all divine attributes, that of Your unfathomable mercy, pass through my heart and soul to my neighbor.

Help me, Oh Lord, that my eyes may be merciful, so that I may never suspect or judge from appearances, but look for what is beautiful in my neighbors' souls and come to their rescue.

Help me, that my ears may be merciful, so that I may give heed to my neighbors' needs and not be indifferent to their pains and moanings.

Help me, Oh Lord, that my tongue may be merciful, so that I should never speak negatively of my neighbor, but have a word of comfort and forgiveness for all.

Help me, Oh Lord, that my hands may be merciful and filled with good deeds, so that I may do only good to my neighbors and take upon myself the more difficult and toilsome tasks.

Help me, that my feet may be merciful, so that I may hurry to assist my neighbor, overcoming my own fatigue and weariness. My true rest is in the service of my neighbor.

Help me, Oh Lord, that my heart may be merciful so that I myself may feel all the sufferings of my neighbor. I will refuse my heart to no one. I will be sincere even with those who, I know, will abuse my kindness. And I will lock myself up in the most merciful Heart of Jesus. I will bear my own suffering in silence. May Your mercy, O Lord, rest upon me.

Oh my Jesus, transform me into Yourself, for You can do all things

TO ATTAIN A MERCIFUL HEART

Oh Jesus, I understand that Your mercy is beyond all imagining, and therefore I ask You to make my heart so big that there will be room in it for the needs of all the souls living on the face of the earth. Oh Jesus, my love extends beyond the world, to the souls suffering in purgatory Oh Jesus, make my heart sensitive to all the sufferings of my neighbor, whether of body or of soul. Oh my Jesus, I know that You act toward us as we act toward our neighbor…make my heart like unto Your merciful Heart. (Diary, 692).

Oh Jesus, make my heart like unto Yours, or rather transform it into Your own Heart that I may sense the needs of other hearts, especially those who are sad and suffering. May the rays of mercy rest in my heart (Diary, 514) Jesus, help me to go through life doing good to everyone. (Diary, 692).

VII- SOME MAILS I HAVE RECIEVED FROM SICK PEOPLE I HAVE VISITED

…I appreciate your mail ... and your prayers which are what supported us in this difficult time I endured, thanks to our Lord, of Mercy. In times of fear and uncertainty when I mentioned the miraculous words “Jesus I have trust in you” I reduced the fear and got a strength and peace that only our Lord could give me these days, only with Jesus, suffering has another dimension. I only got strength from Him- We saw His presence every moment. He never leaves us. The day after tomorrow we will go to the Basilica of Guadalupe to give thanks. Thank you for all your support and your prayers, and you have a humble servant to help you in Morelia to spread his devotion, I would appreciate anything you can send me. Thank you very much. With all my appreciation to someone who, without knowing us came to help us, you were an angel to us. God bless you today and always

------I want to thank you for your presence, I'm sure Jesus put you on our way because it was very good for my mom to talk to you. You have a wonderful vibe, have you been told that you transmit a lot of peace and confidence?? My mom did very well in the surgery, it was very complicated and difficult for the doctor because I was so broken and hurt, but I'm sure the hands of Jesus were on the skills and ability of Dr. ...------I want to thank you with all my heart for showing up in my hospital room, He has given me an enormous strength and I have all my trust put in Him.

------… you don´t know how much I appreciate your prayers and all the peace you have brought to my family. I will do what you told me. And in my heart, I have also felt the presence of God. I will pray hard all the time, not just in this very difficult time, but for the rest of my life, I feel a great commitment to humanity through what you have taught me with your selfless example of life, of love to our neighbors , especially those who are sick. Thanks for this lesson of life-------

BELIEVE OR NOT, I DON’T FORGET YOU EITHER AND I STLII HAVE THE IMAGES OF THE DIVINE MERCY WHICH IM GIVING AWAY TO MY FRIENDS IN AEROMEXICO WHEN THEY CIME T SEE ME AND I ALWAYS TELL THEM HOW YOU RADIETED LIGHT IN MY ROOM WHEN YOU CAME IN.---------

You made me think a lot, and now I am back with strength and trust in Him. I have never lost it but sometimes the body feels bad and it is contagious to the spirit --------I'm in full recovery. Very grateful to our Father to send you to me just when I needed your spiritual help the most. I'd like to see you soon, we´ll talk and I will share the devotion of the Lord of Mercy ... I lost my fear.

VIII CONCLUSION

Bringing people close to God , is the best action you can do here on earth. There is no greater joy than working for God.Feel very fortunate because God has set His eyes on you. It is He who has chosen you and has placed this desire in your heart. This Apostolate of visiting the sick, lets us see good results very soon and it is very rewarding , you can get a very good idea of how rewarding it is when you see the emails I have received from people with whom I have kept in touch after my visit. You can see they are grateful and motivated to raise awareness of the immense love of God and His mercy. After having experienced it very closely, a great desire to share it emerges.

This is how we work with God and make Him known and in the" salvation of souls" .We received great blessings and special protection.

I am delighted that you have desire to get yourself inside this wonderful dimension in your life, to bring God's love to others and talk to them about Him. We are all capable and many have a desire to do it, but few are those who respond to this call.

Prepare yourself as much as you can and have a complete trust in God. He will do the rest.

I hope you find this document useful. In this document I reflect much of what I do during my visits to the hospitals and how I have been preparing myself, , preparation never ends , there is always something new to learn to give a grater help to those who suffer, therefore, you must continue working on your own preparation.

With the experience that you will acquire in this work, you will be getting the necessary skills to improve every day, remember that we are only vehicles and it is God who acts. Try to enrich yourself with prayers and readings and especially with the word of God and the Holy Communion, please do not settle only to this writing.

I will pray for you and for each of the people who have access to this guide, so that God and the Blessed Virgin enlighten you and take you by the hand, granting you His love, His great Consolation and Peace for those who are in great need.

May our Merciful Jesus and the Blessed Virgin spill a sea of blessings on you.

*Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

Our apostolate derives from our communion of love with the Lord.

It is clear to us that the work we do is the work of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has chosen us to be an instrument of His Peace. Those who have discovered the great Mercy of God, cannot do anything but to make it known.

We also need that the grace we have received, will keep preparing us as much as possible in order to transmit the love of Jesus Christ, have a deeper knowledge of human suffering, understanding it to sympathize with them and be able to comfort them.

As Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, we take that peace that can only be felt in receiving the Holy Communion, we have Our Lord Jesus Christ in Body, Soul, Blood and Divinity, we also have His word and we make Christ, present, the Christ of the Great Comfort and Relief.

I think that there is no grater Honor and grater Joy than doing this work, in which God has placed all His trust in us.

It involves a great responsibility; we must act with all the respect and reverence possible. It is very important coherent in our lives (our way of living, acting, speaking and dressing, must be according to our work, never be a cause for scandal).

Prayer is very important, remember that prayer is communication with God and ... sadly, it is clear that there is a disproportion between the immense value of a prayer and the low esteem it is given to it, especially the Eucharistic prayer.

We cannot underestimate the power of prayer and the difference it will make in our world. Jesus says: "And whatever you ask in prayer with faith, you shall receive".

In prayer before the Blessed Sacrament we will get into a movement of love through which all interior progress arises (it is the best way to grow in holiness) and leads to an effective apostolate.

It is the source of love, light and life, it is the perfect place to irradiate faith.

In the same way that we are exposed to the sun and we cannot stop receiving its rays, when you are before the Blessed Sacrament, you can not refrain from receiving The Divine rays of Grace, Mercy and Love that flow from the son of God.

As we also carry the word of God and we make Him present, it is essential to make prayer a part of our daily lives (never stop). We have our Lord and we must be immersed in His love and let Him dwell in us. Jesus must be in our hearts, so we can share it with others and that many can feel His love, know him and love him. We can only do it with the communication we have with Him through prayer. Let’s not forget that it is He who acts, we are only humble servants.

Let us pray with our heart so that we can give to our prayer the heat that will transform them in a

18

Page 19: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

true love offer. All our actions and prayers must be directed to please God.

When we pray the Rosary before the Blessed Sacrament, we are loving Jesus with the heart of Mary

PRAYERS

Prayers I recommend you to pray every day

CONSECRATION

-penetrated with gratitude at the sight of Thy benefits, I come to consecrate myself wholly and unreservedly to Thee-I wish to devote all my energies to propagating Thy worship and winning, if possible, all hearts to Thee.-Receive my heart this day, O Jesus! Or rather take it, change it, purify it, to render it worthy of Thee; Make it humble, gentle, patient, faithful and generous like Thine, by inflaming it with the fire of Thy love. Hide it in Thy Divine Heart with all hearts that love Thee and are consecrated to Thee-never permit me to take my heart from Thee again. Let me rather die than grieve Thy Adorable Heart.-Thou knowest O Heart of Jesus that the desire of my heart is to love Thee always, to be wholly Thine in life and in death, in time and eternity.-Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee.Amen.--------------------------------

Make me an Instrument

(Saint Francis of Assisi)

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.Where there is hatred, let me sow love;where there is injury, pardon;where there is doubt, faith;where there is despair, hope;where there is darkness, light;and where there is sadness, joy.O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seekto be consoled as to console;to be understood as to understand;to be loved as to love.For it is in giving that we receive;it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

19

Page 20: Guide for visits to hospitals.sso

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

We should consider ourselves very privileged undertaking this great task that the Lord has given us. It is not mere coincidence that we are in this ministry, He has chosen us and we have been able to respond. Somehow He has shown His love and His great mercy that has left its mark on us and motivated us to work with Him

Let us give the suffering the joy of feeling that Our Lord and Our dearest Mother Mary are their greatest companions and comforters, passing the great hope born in faith. Let us also give them that friendly hand that is so much needed in difficult times .

In this paper, I describe how I perform this task and the Advise I can give you. I hope that in some way it can be useful and remember that the continuing development that provides your parish, is always very important and you need to maintain your permit credential valid at all times.

Before the Tabernacle

When you go for the Sacred Forms and open the Tabernacle, take a moment, lean and say:

“In heavens and on earth the Loving Heart of the Blessed Sacrament is forever praised” (Three times), Ask Jesus, right there, that all of those who receive Him may feel His love, His peace. His tenderness and consolation and that the joy of receiving Him be with them. Thank Him for the great privilege of allowing you to have Him with you and tell Him that this is a great honor for you.

In the Bedroom

Upon entering, we must make a very cordial greeting and inform the patient that you bring the Holy Communion, if you have visited him/her. Bringing the images of the Lord of Mercy (which I do on my first round) you will already know if he/she wishes to receive it. If not, you will ask if he/she wishes to have it, or have the census given by the Hospital where you will see his/her request and you will be certain if you are expected.

In my case, in my first visit when I take the Lord of Mercy I ask if they want to receive it. I offer to make another round, I inform them that I will be back in an hour or two (while I visit other rooms), I tell them that they can eat, that fasting is not mandatory for them. When they say they are not ready for it, I give them a pamphlet, which I always carry with me, called guide for the Sacrament of Confession, I suggest them to have a Spiritual Communion and tell them that I will pray for them. Also, if I find it appropriate, I say: I'm going to give you this guide that I received one day and I liked it and I made copies to share it, I think it will be very useful. Many are grateful (if you are interested in this guide, request it through [email protected], I can send you a copy and you can make more) I think, somehow it motivates them to approach the Sacrament of Confession.

If entering with the Holy Communion, the TV is on, I ask you to turn it off or I offer to do it for them, we must have a spiritual environment..

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You have already come, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
