Basic structure

• Paragraph 1: Introduction.• Paragraph 2: Arguments for & justifications,

examples and reasons. • Paragraph 3: Arguments against &

justification, examples and reasons. • Paragraph 4: balanced consideration / your

opinion directly or indirectly.

Points to consider.

• Topic sentences. • Avoid informal style.• Personal opinions (e.g. It seems that, I

therefore feel…, etc.).

• To express cause: owing to, due to (the fact that), on account of, given that, as, since.

• To express effect: therefore, thus, as a result / consequence, consequently, for this reason.

• To express intention: to, so as to, in order to, so that.
