Sujud as Sahw
The prostration of forgetfulness during the prayers
It is performed to make up for any discrepancies during the salah, whether intentionally or not
It is sunnah to perform this act, if forgotten, there is no sin upon the person
Reasons
Forgetting to perform one of the main sunnahs discussed earlier
If a person is unsure of the number of raka’hs he has prayed..
A person doubted after leaving the masjid whether he prayed properly or not.. Is his prayer
valid?
If a person doubts his intention, or the opening
takbeer, is his prayer valid?
If one makes a mistake behind the imam, such as forgetting to perform the first tashahhud, then there is no sajda as sahw that needs to be performed at the end.. Because it has been mentioned in a hadeeth that the prayers behind an Imam are guaranteed
Speaking during the salah, or praying an extra raka’h due to forgetfulness. The prostration needs to be performed in this case
Performing a pillar OR main sunnah in the wrong order
How is the prostration performed
Exactly as the prostrations of the prayer, but with the intention of the forgetfulness prostration
It should be performed after the salah, within a short period of time
Sajdah at Tilawah
It is sunnah to perform it for one who is reciting as well as for the listener
