‘At His Feet’ (Luke 6:17-8:21)

Grace received expresses itself in

gratitude returned.

Enter broken woman(Luke 7:36-38)

• There was shock as she entered ( v37)• She had lived a sinful life ( v37)• “And as she stood behind him at his feet,

weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiping them with her hair” ( v38)

Things about Simon(Critical hearted Pharisee –

Luke 7:39-50)1. He has a heart problem (Luke 7:39)2. Labelling problem (also refer Matthew 7:1)3. Spiritual Glaucoma (also refer Matthew

23:26) – He saw the problem not the potential

4. A spectator and not a participator (Mark 3:2)

Jesus teaches Simon (us) Four important truths:

1. Everybody has a past (Luke 7:41)2. A forgiven past leads to a love for God (Luke

7:42)3. Salvation from the past comes by faith (Luke

7:50)4. Salvation from your past is your way to peace

(Luke 7:50)

Where does she go in peace? The one place she’s welcomed is on the street,

among the people who are like her. She can’t go there. What she needs is a community of forgiving and forgiven

sinners. This story screams for the need for a church, not just any church but

one that says “you are welcome here”.- Fred Craddick -

Summary

Are you going to be an over the top kind of follower or a bare minimum

church goer?
