Peace and all Good!
Advent comes year a er year. Every advent we cele-brate Jesus’ coming as an infant long ago, his ongoing presence with us now, and his return in glory in the fu-ture. Each advent calls us to figure out how to live in rela on to a world that frequently wants li le or nothing to do with ge ng ready to celebrate the Incarna on—Immanuel, God is with us! This Advent, let us accept our task to stay awake, and prepare ourselves for the Lord’s coming. As we await his future coming, we are mindful that he is here now in our midst—most especially in those who suffer and need compassion, comfort and healing. How will we embrace Advent discipleship? Hopefully, by what we do this Advent and by what we pray this Advent, we will help guide each other and those in need of hearing God’s Word in today’s world toward the joy of Christmas! This will indeed be a holy and busy Advent! You will find the full list of Advent events in today’s bulle n. On a special note, are the lovely devo onal celebra ons of our Hispanic and Filipino communi es: Las Posadas and Simbang Gabi. Also, Taize Prayer Around the Cross is offered each Wednesday of Advent, beginning this week, in the Mission Church. Repentance is also a part of this season’s prepara on for Christmas. And so, you are urged to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconcilia on at one of the services offered in our parish or at another parish. The lis ng of Reconcilia on Services is also in today’s bulle n. Finally, having par cipated well in some of this Advent’s spiritual events, we will be ready to joyfully celebrate the coming of the Lord at Christmas. Happy Advent Season!

On this first Sunday of Advent Jesus urges his disciples to stay awake and prepare themselves for the Lord’s coming. Good stewards prepare them-selves and await Christ’s judgment in joyous expecta on. This a tude requires genuine spir-itual maturity, of course; the kind that is cul vated by prayer, par cipa on in the sacraments, loving a en on to family and one’s communion of faith, and love for one’s neighbor. Are we prepared for the Lord’s second coming? Are we ready to receive Christ? Are we ready to look joyously for Christ’s judgment?

All are welcome to this beau ful and contempla ve prayer service, which takes us away from all the hurry of Christmas prepara ons to spend some quiet and medita ve me with the Lord. We will gather in a candle lit church to sing some lovely chants from the village of Taize, France and hear
the Word of God. And a er some moments in silent prayer, we will come around the Taize Cross for a mo-ment of venera on. Hope to see you there!
A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR YOUR PARISH
This year, Christmas falls on Sunday 12/25 and Christmas Eve on Saturday 12/24 — both days are normally part of our Sunday Collec on. To help keep our Parish financially healthy, we ask that you use both your Christmas envelope and Sunday envelope that week, add Christmas to your nor-mal Online Giving, or plan on giving both a Christmas and Sunday loose check if that is how you give. In order to balance our parish budget every year we rely heavily on the generous gi s that come to us through the Christmas collec on. We also rely heavily on the weekly Offertory gi s that are made 52 weeks out of the year. Both your Christmas gi s to our parish and your weekly Offertory gi s help us manage our opera ng budget throughout the year, par cularly during the holiday seasons or summer months when our parishioners are out of town. For this rea-son, we ask you to please be as generous as possible with your Christmas gi to the parish. If possible, use both your weekly envelope and your Christmas envelope this Christ-mas. We need your support. Thank you for your generosity both throughout the year and at Christmas!

CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKET DRIVE THANK YOU tyo everyone who supported our less fortu-nate families with a Thanksgiving food basket. As Christmas approaches we are reaching out to you again and ask that you please sponsor an en re family for a generous Christmas Food basket at $40.00 per family or however much you can afford. THE NAMI (NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS) “FAMILY-TO-FAMILY” SERIES
Research shows this program significantly improves cop-ing and problem-solving abili es of people closest to indi-viduals living with mental illness. It is taught by NAMI-trained family members who have lived the "dark days" and includes presenta ons, discussion, and interac ve exercis-es. Topics include: How to manage crises, solve problems, and communicate effec vely; Taking care of yourself and managing your stress; Developing the confidence and stam-ina to provide support with compassion; Finding and using local supports and services; Up-to-date informa on on mental health condi ons and how they affect the brain; Current treatments, including evidence-based therapies, medica ons and side effects; and The impact of mental ill-ness on the en re family. This program will be offered here on Wednesday nights from January 11 to April 5 (no March 1, Ash Wednesday) 6:30-9PM in St. Clare Hall (upstairs in Parish Hall), room 251. This is a free 12-session educa onal program for family, significant others, and friends of people living with mental illness. Please sign up early as this is limited to 20 par cipants! UN PENSAMIENTO DE CORRESPONSABILIDAD
En este primer Domingo de Adviento Jesús re-comienda a sus discípulos estar despiertos y pre-pararse para la venida del Señor. Los buenos co-rresponsables, se preparan y esperan el juicio de Cristo en gozosa esperanza. Esta clase de ac tud requiere una genui-na madurez espiritual, la cual es cul vada por la oración, la par cipación en los sacramentos, la atención amorosa a la familia, la comunión de cada uno en la fe y el amor al próji-mo. ¿Estamos nosotros preparados para la segunda venida del Señor? ¿Estamos listos para recibir a Cristo? ¿Estamos preparados para esperar gozosamente el juicio de Cristo?
QUERIDOS AMIGOS,
¡Paz y Bien!
El Adviento viene año tras año. Cada adviento cele-bramos la venida de Jesús el niño de hace mucho em-po, su presencia con nua con nosotros ahora, y su re-greso en la gloria en el futuro. Cada adviento nos llama a descifrar cómo vivir en relación con un mundo que fre-cuentemente quiere poco o nada que ver con preparar-se para celebrar la Encarnación-Emmanuel, ¡Dios está con nosotros! Este Adviento, aceptemos nuestra tarea de permanecer despiertos y prepararnos para la venida del Señor. Mientras esperamos su venida futura, esta-mos conscientes de que él está aquí ahora en medio de nosotros—sobre todo en aquellos que sufren y necesi-tan compasión, consuelo y sanación. ¿Cómo abrazare-mos el discipulado de Adviento? Espero que, por lo que hagamos este Adviento y por lo que oremos este Ad-viento, ¡nos ayudemos a guiarnos unos a otros y a aque-llos que necesitan escuchar la Palabra de Dios en el mun-do de hoy hacia la alegría de la Navidad! ¡Este será ciertamente un Adviento sagrado y atarea-do! Ustedes encontrarán la lista completa de los eventos de Adviento en el bole n de hoy. En una nota especial están las hermosas celebraciones devocionales de nues-tras comunidad hispana y filipina: Las Posadas y Simbang Gabi. Además, la oración de Taizé Alrededor de la cruz se ofrece cada miércoles de Adviento, a par r de esta semana, en la Iglesia de la Misión An gua. El arrepen miento también es parte de la prepara-ción de esta temporada para la Navidad. Y así, se les pi-de celebrar el Sacramento de la Reconciliación en uno de los servicios ofrecidos en nuestra parroquia o en otra parroquia. La lista de los Servicios de Reconciliación está en el bole n de hoy. Finalmente, habiendo par cipado en algunos de los eventos espirituales de este Adviento, estaremos listos para celebrar con alegría la venida del Señor en esta Na-vidad. ¡Feliz Temporada de Adviento! dos para su venida. En esta época del año, gran parte de nues-tra atención se centra en estar preparados para los detalles que acompañan las fiestas. Compramos regalos; decoramos nuestro hogar por fuera y por dentro; preparamos comidas especiales para esta época; escribimos y enviamos tarjetas de Navidad; asis mos a conciertos navideños; nos preparamos para recibir a los familiares y amigos en nuestro hogar o para visitarlos en sus hogares. No podemos ignorar los detalles que forman parte de este empo. Quizás este Adviento sea un
empo para prestar atención a todos esos detalles con un en-foque diferente.
