Question 2 How does your media product represent particular social groups? My music magazine genre was based around Rap/HipHop and aimed at a younger target audience. This means that this magazine could represent different particular social groups. WorkingClass The genre of music based in my magazine is typically listened to by workingclass people. This is because they live different lifestyles compared to middle or higher class people which could affect their taste in music. This means that my music magazine represents the workingclass and perhaps what they are interested in from music types to hobbies and interests. My music magazine contains content about rappers, daily lifestyle stories and free giveaways which could attract the workingclass people as they may have life problems which they can escape for 1015 minutes by reading the lives of other artists and finding out what their lives are like. My music magazine also represent the workingclass from the clothing style and poses from my main rap group on the front cover of my magazine. The three artists are posed with their hoods up and covering their faces, which shows that they could have troubled personalities and perhaps be violent as they are rappers. This means that workingclass people may feel that they can relate to the impressions that the rap group give out to the audience. This is because younger troublemakers are known for being workingclass rather than a higher class. The language used in the magazine is very basic and not that complex. This means that it is certain that the workingclass will be able to read the magazine, as they may not have a developed use of vocabulary. College/Schools The future generation is based on the youngsters of today, meaning that their tastes in music are different to what perhaps another generation’s popular tastes were. The youth of today is known as being a hyperactive group, meaning that they are into intimidating or upbeat music. Seeing as the genre of my music magazine can be seen as intimidating, violent, or upbeat, it means that my magazine represents the youth, who will be in some sort of education. This means that my music magazine will represent the music genre taste that is popular throughout schools and colleges, as if something is popular then it means that a lot of people are interested in it. The language used in the magazine is not very formal and is basic and easy to understand. This means that the younger group will be able to understand the language used as the audience may not have a strong use of vocabulary as they are still in education. Gangs One particular group that my magazine may represent is gangs. My music magazine contains a background story of my main rap group Kingz, and due to their background coming from a deprived area where they committed crimes and went on to make rap music, gangs may feel that they can relate to the magazine. They may have committed the same activities and aspire to be rappers in order to get a better life just like Kingz. This means that my magazine may
