What is Facebook ?

• Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook Inc.

• According to Facebook.com: “Facebook is an online directory that connects people through social networks at schools”.

• Facebook is a way for people to connect with other people they know, or to connect with their friends and remain in touch with them.

History of Facebook Facebook was founded by “Mark Zuckerberg” with his

college roommates and fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz &Chris Hughes.When he was student at haward university.

Harvard students created the site as a tool to connect with other students in their community.

On 4th February 2004, Zuckerberg launched "The facebook", originally located at thefacebook.com.

In August 2005, “thefacebook” was officially called “Facebook” and the domain facebook.com was purchased for $200,000.

Facebook currently has 850 million active users (up to fab. 2012) .

And more than 200 million users are added to facebook in a single year.

By the end of 2012, facebook is expected to reach 1 billion active users.

India has second highest number of facebook users among world

facebook is the second biggest website by traffic behind Google.

More than 70 translations are available on the site.

People that use Facebook on their mobile devices are twice as active on Facebook than non-mobile users.

The meaning of the term poke has never been defined.

Advantages:

Facebook helps us to find new friends and also helps us to find our old friends. Facebook helps in eliminating the effect of distance between friends, parents, relatives etc. Facebook is a boredom killer! Facebook also acts as a source of entertainment by

means of some Applications and games.

Advantages: Facebook is the best medium to share your feelings and thoughts with others. It can also be used as video chat tool. It helps in business promotion through Ads. and Fans page. It’s one of the best source to stay updated with latest news

and updates. Students can use Facebook for group study by creating a

group only for studying If you have a Facebook login ID than you don't need to

waste your time for registering other site.

Facebook : Disadvantages Facebook can become a major distracter from

academics, as the students waste their study time for using Facebook .

There are limited hours in a day. Time spend online is time taken away from study, extracurricular activities, and other social interactions.

Facebook may lead to Internet Stalking: Personal information such as address, phone number and bio data can provide many tools to individuals interesting in keeping observation on someone.

Password safety & identity theft.

Facebook : Disadvantages

The student break their real life social relationship for building internet relationships .

Facebook has a bad influence on childen . Our personal data is not safe on Facebook :

Facebook can do anything with our data, because you agree to these terms (distribution and data manipulation), and we are unable to avoid them. It is necessary to tick these rules when we are registering. So facebook can easily sell our private data to third parties and to companies with which they have relationships.

One can easily create an fake account and impersonate another person.

Facebook : highly addictive!! Facebook addition is the main problem that is been

faced by youngsters from around the world. This gives them no time to involve in other activities.

Facebook addiction is a serious disorde & this disorder is known as F.A.D.(facebook addiction disorder).

Due to F.A.D users become less productive in their daily life.

The facebook addiction reduces user’s health and physical capacity and may lead to obesity.

The students lost their sleeping time and studying time at night .

CONCLUSION

Facebook is a gift if we use it in the right way otherwise it

will indeed be an enemy.

So let’s use it wisely!!
