what is a film distributor?• A film distributor is a company or individual

responsible for the marketing of a film. The film distributor might set the date for a films release or the method in which is to be exhibited.

my chosen distributor

• I decided to use Film 4 as my distributor for my film, because Film 4 is a low budget film distributor that would be more likely to distributed my film. It is also a trusted distributor and has distributed many low budget films such as The Legend of Shorty and Starred Up.

• I researched further into Film 4 as I wanted to make sure that I had picked the right distributor.

choosing Film 4• A strong part of Film 4’s ethos is to work on

projects that represent ‘real life’ this closely relates to their partnership with Channel 4 who also believe in representing real life documentaries onto TV. I therefore picked Film 4 as my film is a ‘real life’ film and one who Film 4 would be likely to distribute as it explores a subject that is not usually portrayed in films.

• I showed Film 4 in my media product at the beginning of the film with their logo and opening titles video.

a final word…

• Overall I am happy with the film distributor I have picked as I believe, had my film actually been produced, they would happily distributed it as it matches their values and what they believe makes a ‘good film’.
