UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign invites you to “Orange YOUR Neighbourhood,”

Say NO – UNiTE records what individuals, orgs and governments worldwide are doing to end violence against women.

The Issue

Raise awareness and trigger action to end the global scourge of violence against women and girls, the UN observes International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence which follow (ending on 10 December, Human Rights Day) are a chance to mobilize and raise awareness.

Armed Conflict has a legal connotation in terms of the Geneva Conventions on International Humanitarian law. The stated position of Government of India is that there is no ‘armed conflict’ within India

Orange the World in 16 days

Reach out to your neighbours, local stores, food-sellers on the corner of your street, gas stations, local cinemas, barbers, schools, libraries and post offices! Project orange lights and hang orange flags onto local landmarks, tie orange ribbons where you are allowed, and organize local ‘orange marches’ on 25 November to raise awareness about violence against women and discuss solutions that would work for your community.

ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR SURVIVORS

Survivor meaning a person who survives, especially a person remaining alive after an event in which others have died.

ORANGE DAY SUPPORTS V-DAY

The UNiTE campaign’s Orange Day in January will call for support of V-Day and will focus on access to justice for survivors of violence against women and girls

Orange Day: January 25

January 25, the UNiTE campaign will focus on access to justice for survivors of violence against women and girls in the lead up to February 14th, when the V-Day initiative will launch the One Billion Rising for Justice action.
