Experiential Transcoding…

• Experiential transcoding aims to transcode web pages into more accessible forms based on the understanding of user’s experience.

• Focus on eyetracking based experiential transcoding.• Improve interaction of disabled and mobile web users.

• What is the effect?

Findings!• Even though our participants performed better with

transcoded web pages, our study shows that “old habits die hard”!

• Although people are not satisfied with their current small screen device web browsing support, they still manage to use it and look for similar support in transcoded versions.

User Study Details…• Hypothesis

– Participants who performed tasks on transcoded pages are more satisfied with their performance and system, in terms of task completion, system usability, information quality and interface quality.

• Materials– Six web pages in 3 complexity group: apple, babylon, yahoo, avg,

godaddy and BBC.• Measurement

– Used the After-Scenario Questionnaire (ASQ);– The Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire: system usefulness

(SYSUSE), information quality (INFOQUAL) and interface quality (INTERQUAL).

• Procedure– Task based: Browsing tasks and searching tasks

Summary and Future Work• Even though our participants performed better with

transcoded web pages, our study shows that “old habits die hard”!

• Although people are not satisfied with their current small screen device web browsing support, they still manage to use it and look for similar support in transcoded versions.

• A more individualised transcoding might be better - need to investigate further!
