Page 31: Oil & Gas Recruitment

Our client’s challengeOur client, one of the largest oil producers in the world, was building a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit in South Korea, then sailing it over to a license block in offshore Nigeria. The company needed a staffing partner who could supply a team of engineers with expertise in subsea systems, umbilicals, flowlines and risers and fully support the contractors in both locations.

Our solutionWith our global reach, including an office in South Korea and two offices in Nigeria, we found exactly the personnel required for the construction and commissioning phases of the project. Our local presence enabled us to offer dedicated assignment support to our contractors, with full mobilisation support and facilitating payments in foreign currency.

The outcomeWe sourced a team of specialists from 13 different countries to work on the initial phases of the FPSO unit in South Korea. Prior to the FPSO unit tow from South Korea to Nigeria, we returned all of the contractors back to their home countries to secure the relevant visas and work permits and ensure that they were fully compliant with Nigerian legislation as well as arranging the necessary medical insurances and security support.

Every single member of staff required was there at the initial project site in South Korea and at the new site in Nigeria ready to start work where they were needed, when they were needed.

CASE STUDY//CONTINGENT CONTRACT STAFFING

Page 32: Oil & Gas Recruitment

Our client’s challengeOur client was working on the fabrication of a large offshore Liquefied Natural Gas platform. The fabrication was to take place in Malaysia, a country where they had very little presence or exposure. They were in need of an experienced staffing partner who could manage the entire project staffing process on their behalf, giving them access to a high volume of quality talent in a tight timescale.

Our solutionWe have a large established office in Kuala Lumpur, however after consultation with the client, one of our experienced local consultants was assigned to work full time in our client’s office, ensuring that our consultant could fully understand the challenge and therefore manage the project effectively.

The outcomeSupported by the team in the Kuala Lumpur office, we worked with the client to source over 50 contractors in the first year to work throughout the different stages of the project lifecycle. We managed the entire recruitment and human resources process on behalf of our client, arranging all of the logistics including mobilisation, background checks and payroll.

In addition the project was run to a tight governance structure, which included weekly reporting. This formed the basis for regular meetings allowing our client to accurately forecast spend and identify areas for potential financial pre-emptive action, ensuring the project remained within budget.

Our client’s challengeOur client, one of the largest global oil companies, required a senior reservoir engineer for a key project in Iraq. Due to the location of the project the company needed a candidate who could speak Arabic fluently.

Our solutionOur discipline specific recruitment consultants took time to fully understand our client’s needs. We accessed our global talent pool to find the specialist talent the company was seeking, ensuring the candidate had the technical and language skills required. Our team of consultants sourced an Arabic speaking senior reservoir engineer with 13 years’ subsurface experience working for major oil and gas operators all over the world, including Canada, Libya, Italy and Scotland.

The outcomeSuch is the niche level of our candidate’s skills and expertise that the candidate regularly performs training sessions to workers and representatives from major oil and gas companies in both English and Arabic. This was perfect for our client as the company needed somebody who could manage both expatriates and local workers, ensuring that they have been retrained to the appropriate standard and are working to the best of their ability. As a result of a number of highly successful specialist contract placements, which no other company has been able to make, we have become the preferred supplier with this client making approximately 650 placements per year in Iraq.

Page 34: Oil & Gas Recruitment

Our client’s challengeOur client, a start-up engineering service provider based in Houston, USA, needed to attract subsea experts to work on a multi-billion dollar project, crucial to its business strategy. The challenge was time critical, so they required a partner who could guarantee to find the highest quality staff quickly.

Our solutionWe dedicated one of our discipline specific subsea consultants full time to the project and they worked with the client to understand the business and talent requirement. Working to a tight deadline, the client needed a guarantee that we could provide suitable talent within the necessary timeframe.

The outcomeWe successfully placed five key hires within the three week time period that our client had requested. Our client was so impressed by our tailored solution and the impact that their new recruits had on their project, that they tasked us with a further 12 vacancies within various disciplines. We have since become the partner of choice to this client, making around 30 direct placements per year.

CASE STUDY//CONTINGENCY HIRE

Page 35: Oil & Gas Recruitment

Our client’s challengeOur client, a leading engineering project management and consultancy company, needed to make in excess of 100 specialist hires for a key project in Abu Dhabi, split into three major sections – island reclamation, offshore works and onshore works – each requiring differing technical expertise. The client chose to partner with us as we listened and understood the business need and we can guarantee strict timeframes when attracting and processing large numbers of candidates from around the world.

Our solutionIn order to find the right candidates, we took time to understand the project and the skillsets required. We focused on the hardest to fill roles first, prioritising strategic hires such as

engineering, project controls and construction management.

We worked closely with our client, providing advice and support and ensuring new employees settled into their new roles and surroundings, improving staff retention.

The outcomeSo far, we have successfully placed over 40 individuals on the project from India, the Philippines, Pakistan, South Africa, Canada, USA, UK, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Portugal. We mobilised all candidates to schedule and the client is so impressed that we are working with them on two separate projects in Abu Dhabi and an additional project in Qatar.

CASE STUDY//MULTI-NATIONAL DEPLOYMENT

Page 36: Oil & Gas Recruitment

Our client’s challengeOur client, an international engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, had recently entered the North American EPC market and were soon awarded a contract to design, construct, commission and startup a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility. Being new to the area, the company needed the support of a staffing provider who understood the industry and the local market.

Our solutionWith the understanding that the client required an aggressive and expedited hiring plan, we offered our project direct hire solution, guaranteeing to find our client the 55 personnel they required within the initial six months. This included having two consultants working onsite with our client and a further three dedicated consultants at our office

in Houston, allowing us to fully understand the project needs and offer a fully consultative solution.

The outcomeWithin the first six months of engagement with the client, we found and placed 60 direct staff with the company, specifically to the LNG project. This started with the most urgent requirements of process, mechanical and piping, electrical and instrumentation and project controls engineers, followed by project management and civil / structural staff. Significantly reducing their time-to-hire, we’ve helped to keep our client on schedule to deliver their LNG facility to the required deadline.

CASE STUDY//PROJECT DIRECT HIRE

Page 37: Oil & Gas Recruitment

Our client’s challengeOur client, an Australian based oil and gas operator, was

looking for a strategic staffing partner who could provide

a centrally managed recruitment and resourcing solution

for their global staffing process. They wanted to work

with a company who could provide them with a full

reporting suite, develop a range of measurable HR

metrics and improve their overall hiring efficiency.

Our solutionWorking from our network of four offices across Australia, we implemented a fully integrated RPO solution to cover their core hiring divisions of permanent recruitment, contract staffing, executive search, training and pre-employment assessments. We also gave our client a central point of contact responsible for the implementation of the overall solution who could report against the company’s key performance indicators.

The outcomeWithin the first year of implementing the solution, we halved our client’s dependency on external suppliers to just 20%, with a further reduction to 7% within three years, representing a significant cost saving to the business. We also materially reduced our client’s time-to-hire.

Such was the seamless integration of our team within our client's organisation, that during the process we also helped our client to set up several initiatives, including a career flexibility program which allowed job-sharing among part time workers and a push to recruit over 30 staff with a disability, to adhere to their newly developed corporate responsibility guidelines. Through this integrated approach, over 1,100 staff were brought into the business within six months of launch.

CASE STUDY//FULLY INTEGRATED RPO

Page 38: Oil & Gas Recruitment

Our client’s challengeOur client, an oilfield services provider, wanted to consolidate resourcing activity under a single operational solution. The key objectives were to improve the experience for hiring managers and candidates and reduce time-to-hire through sourcing innovation and talent pooling. The client also wanted to improve response times and offer broader access to the global talent pool by improving sourcing and attraction approaches under the client’s brand. We were tasked with building a robust resourcing solution to service these requirements.

Our solutionWe implemented a comprehensive multi-country RPO solution, delivering services across the five main regions of Asia, Middle East, Europe, Africa and Russia Caspian.

Onsite recruitment services were delivered in 16 countries with offsite centralised sourcing and administration services being delivered to over 60 countries in total. We operated from five main hubs with support from two global client service centres in the Philippines and Poland.

The outcomeAfter implementing the solution three years ago, we now make over 4,000 placements per year on behalf of our client. Our direct hire RPO solution has reduced our client’s time-to-hire by 50% to 24 days. We have also significantly reduced the cost-per-hire by reducing the reliance on external suppliers from over 50% to less than 5%. Our scope of services has grown every year and now also includes graduate and senior management hiring.
