Low budget – The Blaire Witch Project

The Blair Witch Project grossed $248,639,099 worldwide. After reshoots, a new sound mix, experiments with different endings, the film's final budget ended up between $500,000 and $750,000, this is a very small amount of money to produce a film compared to other films that have been produced in the past.

High Budget – The Hangover

The film budget eventually cost altogether to around $35 million and ended up grossing $467.5 million worldwide.

The Blair Witch Project was produced by a company called Haxan, who, before The Blair Witch Project came out, were virtually unknown. However after the rapid success of The Blair Witch Project the company became increasingly popular.

Production companies for each film – The Hangover

The Hangover was allegedly produced by the company Warner bros known worldwide. By having the Warner Bros as the production company for the film they already had an advantage to begin with when producing because of the finance they could access to begin with.

Differences and similarity between institutions

Haxan are different to Warner Bros in a variety of different ways, first of all their budget. Warner Bros are one of the most famous film production companies and therefore have access to a huge budget, whereas Haxan aren’t as well known and don’t have the finance like Warner Bros.

Haxan - The production company also produced the Fox TV series FreakyLinks, and the feature films Altered (2006), Seventh Moon (2008), and Lovely Molly (2012), along with the forthcoming Exists. They tend to follow the pattern of producing films that are horror or thriller genre based.

Warner Bros – Over the past century Warner Bros have produced a variety of different films for example, recently they produced Project X which was a successful comedy film. They have also produced a variety of action films including on of the popular Batman films ‘The Dark Knight’.

Target audience for each production company

The target audience for Haxan company would generally be people aged 15 and above as that’s what most of their films are rated as.

The target audience for Warner bros generally varies as they have created a mixture of different genre films. However it has been stated that their target audience is people aged 18 to 34.
