5 step process

First one, talk about Jobs. What really set him a part was PASSION.

find yourPASSION1

Make it personal.Be vulnerable. How do you get passionate? Find something that inspires you and RUN!What inspires me? 1) Simplicity. 2) Pretty designs. 3) Help others.

start with anOUTLINE2

Information dump. Organize. Outline at a high-level. Identify gaps. Start building. Get inspired. Be flexible - make changes test your assumptions.

choose yourFOCAL POINT3

There is no such thing as foci! Choose your focal pointDepends on where and how you are presenting. Should it be the presenter or the presentation? (emailed, in person, webinar)Each time you communicate it you will need to review and modify. THINK OF YOUR AUDIENCE then ask, 1. Who is the audience? 2. Why should the audience care? 3. What is the most important point? 4. How can I help them remember?

uncover and thenTELL THE STORY4

An age old tradition. Tell the story - exposition, build, climax, resolutionCova dels Cavalls, Valltorta. Stories from neanderthals from 350,000 BC

Less is more.5

Three Cs. = Concise. Clean. Clear.Every word earns its way on the slide.Make everything as simple as possible, but no simpler. -EinsteinA designer has reached perfection, not when he has nothing else to add but when they have nothing left to take away.

find someone that willCALL YOU OUT

Find someone that doesnt know the subject matter and can call you out. They arent afraid to say your an idiot or that doesnt make any sense.

AFTER

Something I am proud to put on the screen excites me. It shows the hard work of my team and I become more passionate.

2 case study

Create an outline. = Story of YouTube YouTube crushed Google Video. I was building up to the climax in the story and really wanted to nail the point.

Started with the data but felt so bland

vs

BEFORE

Pulled in a classic YouTube video image. But it was way too much on the screen. And I still couldnt read the chart.

vs.

BEFORE

I liked the look of this better. It showed the impact and I could explain the numbers but I was confusing people by verbally siting the numbers and not showing them.

So I simplified. I walked people through the numbers using a slow reveal. Then showed the graph to make my final point.

AFTER

I conclude stating that YouTube beat Google Video in every way and was ultimately acquired by Google for $1.65 Billion.

3 case study

Choose the Focal Point. = Platform explanationI had a very complex topic. The best way to explain is making comparisons. Taking something everyone knows and applying that to the complex subject matter.

Think of the audience and ask, Who is the audience? 2. Why should the audience care? 3. What is the most important point? 4. How can I help them remember?

*Google Slides

ContentPublishing

The Apple Mobile Platform. Platforms are about interactions within the ecosystem. Roles: Provider, Producer, ConsumerActions: Connection, Creation, ConsumptionYouve all seen that. But you likely didnt know that I had to create multiple versions of the deck with static slides for email.

ContentPublishing

I had to email And I knew it would likely be read in a hurry if at all. Therefore, I dont usually send it as a PPT. I feel it is better as a PDF. And this just doesnt cut it.

Apples Mobile Platform

I created two separate slides for many of my decks.

Infusionsofts Platform

Given more time I would do a lot more to this image but it conveys the message. The key is know who you are presenting to, what format and tailor to meet those needs.

4 case study

Tell the story. = Creation and personal connectionCreative process - get the design right.

*Keynote & Google Slides

uncover and thenTELL THE STORY

BEFORE

Repurposed an image I had used. I didnt like that the books were closed. I want people to TELL the story. Not leave them on the shelf.

Went to Google. Searched for what Tell the story. That lead me to Storytelling which lead me to the picture of the Native Americans. And that lead me to cave drawings.

BEFOREtell theSTORY

I liked the thought of using the old tradition. It illustrated why we do story telling. Yet there wasnt a personal connection with the image and the colors didnt seem to match.

I couldnt find any information.

BEFORE

Holy crap! That is a lot of information. Obviously, we should be acting on this, right? Wrong. I dont even remember what you told. How can you change that? The 3 Cs = Concise, Clean and Clear. Make every detail perfect and minimize the number of details.
