What is a Distribution Company?• Distribution companies are companies and institutions that can be

hired to make your specific product available for consumption by consumers.

• They do this by marketing and promoting your product through several pieces of media. Either through commercials, social media sites, viral campaigns and more.

• Altogether for films, distribution companies basically focus on where and how many cinemas/theatres your films will be shown at. Depending on the films overall budget and quality it will vary how many places they will allow your film to be viewed in.

• Well known distribution companies in the UK include; 20th Century Fox, Pathé Distribution and Universal Pictures.

Which Distribution Company Would Distribute Our Film

• There is large range of companies that would possibly distribute our film, both mainstream and independent.

• Companies such as:- Hammer Films (The Quiet Ones, The Woman in Black, Let Me In)- Warner Bros (The Conjuring, Anabelle, Poltergeist)- Pathé Distribution (Selma, Trance, Miserere)- RLJ Entertainment (Condemned, The Invoking, Uncaged) - Brain Damage Films (The Afflicted, Project Of Evil, Amnesiac)• I think a more independent distribution company would distribute our film more than a

mainstream one as our film is a generally quite small scale movie. Altogether I think the company that is most likely to distribute our films is RLJ Entertainment as they are best known for distributing independent and small scale horror films.

How and When Would Our Film be Released

• I think the best time for our film to be released is probably end of July to begging of August time when the academic school year usually finishes in the UK.

• I think this would be the best time to release it as a majority of our target audience would have finished their academic year and exams, leaving them plenty of free time to go and watch our film in the theatres.

• Also these months are arguable some of the best months to release new films as many previous movies have had great sales and large commercial success because a majority of the population that goes to see movies are on holiday.

How Would We Market Our Film• There are many ways we could possibly market our film to target our main

audience:- One way we could target our audience is by using social media sites such as

Facebook and Twitter to really promote the film and spread word about it, because our target audience is well known for using these sites.

- Another way we could promote our film is with the use of billboards, signs and posters all around certain parts of the UK, specially near theatres of where our films are going to be showed.

- Doing promotions on YouTube would be a great way to promote the film as YouTube as a whole is used globally specially by the age range we are trying to target. An example of a successful promotional stunt used to campaign a film was the ‘Telekinetic Coffee Shop prank’ that went viral and got millions of views on it for the movie Carrie. This really gave their film a lot of publicity which resulted in more people knowing and seeing their film in the cinemas.
