To what extent can we co-create with students?

Research best practice and develop Library Services support for employability.

Embed employability in information literacy provision.

Create employability support materials eg online guide, workshops, collections with student input.

Approach• Create student-centred employability resources

informed by experience- based design (as used in the NHS) to enhance services.

• Consult students from different disciplines and levels & use the experiences, narratives and ideas of participants.

• Development of collections, library guides and workshops.

• Provide organic, evolving rather than static resources.

Engagement methods

• “Students are increasingly actively involved in the enhancement of their university experience” (KCL, 2015).

• Survey on Survey Monkey sent to some selected students & via Departmental Administrators (Law & Social Sciences & Business & Library Science).

• Follow up qualitative interviews with some respondents.• Asked for feedback & ‘crowdsourced’ content on our new

Employability Library guide - design, content and suggested resources. Webform still on guide.

• Feedback & suggestions after workshops.

Conclusion• Students can influence service design if they engage.• Can co-create within limits of time, money and

resourcing. Payment- use of student time? • Employability to be embedded in training. • Can be a challenge to incorporate all suggestions.• Personal narratives & case studies are interesting but

are more difficult to use than quantitative data.• Feedback on the Library guide was very useful.
