Develop a plan for the Second Life Student Centre
A Student Centre should incorporate everything a student needs:
• Study areas
• Places to relax
• Space to hang out with friends
• Entertainment areas
• Places to eatWithout each of these areas, a centre that has
been designed to cater to ALL the needs of a student would be incomplete
Centre Overview:
Stude
The building will be hexagonal on the outside, as the picture shows. This will allow for circular, square, triangle or hexagon shaped levels, with no loss of floor space.
• Positioned to face North, getting the right amount of sunlight into each floor (reflective windows not shown in sketch).
• Beautiful sea views, nestled into a hill.
• Surrounded by a forest on one side, and a flower garden on the other.
• Spas and massage area are positioned at the beach, less than 20m away.
• No rain or cold in SL - allows for an outdoor spa area, and an ever green forest area.
Outdoor Spa Area - Nelle
• Spas• Hot Springs/Thermal
Pools• Massage Area• Sauna
Although avatars wouldn't actually feel the physical benefits of hydrotherapy and massage therapy in SL, we decided to build a spa area in our student centre complex because a spa area provides students space for relaxation
Outdoor Spa Area Cont.
Benefits of a Spa Area in the Student Centre include:
• Space to relax/wind down after hard day of studying
• Relax tired and sore muscles
• Aid recovery - prevent and eliminate injuries
• Reduce stress and even enhance circulation
• Beneficial to student’s overall health
Indoor Moonlight Garden Cinema - Gavin
Located underground, below the student centre complex;
Provides a place to get away from the pressures of student life - relaxing place that always remains constant, an escape from reality
Constant temperature, constant ambience, constant time of day. Its
for when students want to go somewhere, and know what to
expect
Indoor Moonlight Garden Cinema Cont.
• Domed roof - give effect of a night sky inside
• Temperature will be regulated to emulate a cool summer's night
• Beanbag/cushion seating at front
• Tiered recliner seating
• Plants to give outdoor feel
• Water feature

Digital Library Cont.
• Screens display any book or information – one screen for book, one for writing
• Pods enclose student for silent, non-distracting study, with built-in computers

Caters for all students’ study needs
Food Court - Cyro
• Made up of food court and restaurant (on different levels)
• Food court provides place to hang out and cheap food – what every student needs!
• Restaurant provides more formal atmosphere – can be used for meetings, group functions etc, as well as serving nice meals
Food Court
Restaurant
Whilst avatars don’t actually need to eat in SL, places such as food courts and restaurants serve social functions as well as eating functions, and are necessary to have in a student centre
Student Bar - Kisa• Fully stocked bar
• Private seating
• TVs with sports/music videos
• Pool/Foosball Tables
• Jukebox
• Dance floor
A student centre without a bar just wouldn’t be a student centre!
Place to relax, socialise, meet up and have fun
Rooftop - Serena• Two areas: Party and Relaxation
Party Area
• Area for students to let loose after exams, on Friday arvo’s, or whenever the need arises
• Includes BBQ, outdoor settings, stage for live entertainment and a dance floor
• Encourages students to interact in a friendly, stress-free environment
• Space away from studies to get to know classmates
Relaxation Area
• Place for students to pray, meditate, or simply relax
• Space for students to catch up on some much needed sleep after a long day/night of studying/partying
• Contains yoga mats, headsets tuned to soothing music and comfy recliners
• Solution to get away from the hectic life as a student
