2. How does your media
product represent particular social groups?
My media product is suitable for multiple social groups, aged from at least 12 years of age till late teens.
This attracts a specific type of audience to my magazine, which shows that my product does actually attract who it should.
The R&B genre is very popular with both males and females, and this then affected my decision in choosing this genre for my magazine.
I researched the R&B genre and artists, and made sure I picked ones relevant to my specific genre. This allows my magazine to attracts the right people for the magazine.
For example, I used the 'bling' effect for my masthead, as I know that people who listen to R&B music, sometimes wear jewellery with that sort of effect.
I represent this specific group of people in other ways, such as the style of my magazine.
I found that the R&B genre consists of a lot of red, black, grey and 'bling' type colours, which is what i used in my magazine to help represent my chosen genre.
As you can see, ‘VIBE’ magazine uses a lot of the colours I chose to input into my magazine, such as red, grey and black.
Whereas here, they have used again, the same type of colours, but created a different themed front cover, ultimately serving to a different audience type.
This is a different RnB magazine, but again it uses the three key colours associated with the RnB genre.
I made my model put on a black leather jacket as that is one of the key types of clothing when thinking of the R&B genre. I gave her red lips to add colour to the image, which also reflects the strong, feistiness of the genre.
In the left hand third of my front cover, I used popular R&B artists to promote my magazine, as if people look at the cover and see known artists, they'll want to read more. I reflected this genre through to the double page spread, by using popular R&B type colours.
